There are so many Lloyd Webber compilations around, but this one is a little different. Most of the songs are well known, but on this collection they are performed by a bunch of singers who bring a freshness to the material - it is a real change not to hear the original cast voices, and therefore some different interpretations by some well known names in British music theatre, and some names which are new to me at least! The "hit" performances of the album for me are Claire Moore's "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" from Phantom - mixing her obvious operatic ability with that of the pop belter we know as the original Ellen in Miss Saigon."Another Suitcase..." by Grania Renihan, and Janis Kelly's "Anything But Lonely" are also highlights, but what particularly impressed me was "Too Much In Love To Care" from Sunset Boulevard by Andrew Newey and Katrina Murphy. What a great song, and Andrew Newey's vocal is superb - strong, and honest in his delivery. I'd love to hear this guy live if anyone hears of him performing in the UK. Just a couple of songs which don't quite make the grade as far as I'm concerned - John Barrowman's strained "Love Changes Everything" and Diane Langton's even more strained "Only You" from Starlight Express. Otherwise, this is a great collection at a great price!!
