Product Description

Product Description

In the November 2001 Venice Cup final, Germany trailed France by 47 IMPs starting the last set. In this book, world champion Sabine Auken tells the thrilling inside story of their comeback world title win, every bid and every card. She also uses each of the sixteen deals from that final session as a starting point for discussion, and distills from each of them general principles and advice that will help anyone looking to improve their own game. Among the topics covered here are the rationale for her own system agreements (the pros and cons of mini-notrump openings, multi-purpose two-bids, the merits of forcing club systems, etc.) and carding methods, as well as team chemistry, table presence and even dressing for success!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and informative, Dec 8 2006
By Mike Gorsky - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: I Love This Game (Paperback)
Lots of great tips. Auken gives examples of the mini No trump, aggressive bidding, and unusual carding.

Lots of interesting stories as well. Like the time she spilled coffee on an opponent :-)

You will enjoy this book if you are interested in Bridge, the focus isn't on just Bridge play, but on the lifestyle and thoughts at the bridge table of one of the top players.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun entertaining book, Sep 8 2006
By B. Einhorn - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: I Love This Game (Paperback)
I don't agree with all of the authors views on Bridge (she likes random/destructive bidding - I don't - I think it makes the game more of a bluffing/guessing game than a deductive reasoning game)
and I didn't agree with all her inferences on some hands (skimpy inferences , she was just lucky)
BUT
Its a fun book, with nice hands, and interesting discussions of the weak NT.
