Not the best, but definitely not bad either., Aug 11 2010

For someone who has read some of Gerri Hill's other works, I was a little disappointed by this long anticipated book. Not to say that it wasn't still entertaining. I did enjoy the book, but was just expecting something a little more captivating. I would have given it 3 and 1/2 stars if it was an option. The pace of the book is a little slow for my taste and rather than being absorbed by it, I often put the book down; not because I had other things to do, but because it simply got a little boring.
The romance between the characters was also a little hard for me to grasp. That is, in their older years. For their teenage years- when Ashleigh and Gina first meet- Gerri Hill does an awesome job of illustrating the spark and the innocent wonder of new found sexual desires that the teen years bring. In fact, I almost wish the entire book took place when the women were teens; it was more enjoyable reading those parts.
As for the characters, I loved them all, except for maybe Gina. Ashleigh's character was very three dimensional and very likable. Gina, however, felt a little flat and stereotypical: the classic lesbian jock. For some reason, her feelings and thoughts never felt real enough for me and I just felt Hill slacked a little bit with this character.
Otherwise, I fine book, if not just lacking a little bit. But if you're looking for a truly great lesbian read, Gerri Hill's "Scorpion" is fast paced and a hot page-turner!

One of Gerri Hill's Best, July 20 2010

It starts off slow and seems like it's going to be formulaic. But when the girls finally get together, wow! Their reunion is hot and passionate. Ashleigh's reluctance to trust Gina again is both understandable and laudable. I would have been very cautious in her shoes. As a reader, of course, we know what is in Gina's heart, but Ashleigh doesn't know this. Ms Hill's characters are believable and behave in a natural and understandable way. I just love the way she writes.

Good Entertainment, Aug 2 2010

Ashleigh Pence and Gina Granburry have been high school sweethearts back in their youth, despite Ashleigh being the all-American high school girl (cheerleader, prom queen and so on). Unfortunately a betrayal drove them apart and they haven't been in touch ever since... until class reunion some twenty years or so later. And the attraction between them is still there when they meet.
I really enjoyed the story even though the ending of the book was a bit predictable (which romance isn't?). Gerri Hill is a gifted writer and Ashleigh and Gina are likeable heroines.
This isn't Gerri Hill's best book but it still is an overall enjoyable read, good for a few hours of entertainment.
