Nostalgic sounds from THE freestyle diva Mar 4 2004
Format:Audio CD
I recently picked up this album, about 10 years late in the game...but I was 14 when it was released in 1994, so I didn't know about it back then. Anyhow, this is a great look at old-school Jocelyn.

With 'Lovely', you can't help but reminisce about those skating rink moments, skating to the upbeat, fast freestyle music. The production is really indicative of its time, the freestyle beats that are dated now, but were cool back then. There are some great gems on this album "I Feel For You", "Big Love", and her beautiful ballads "Never the One" and "You are the One." The more somber tune "I Never Thought Love Would Break My Heart" is superb, too...with the combination of piano and Jocelyn's vocal stylings- you cannot go wrong! My only complaint is the last reprise track- what was the point of that?? It was like 43 seconds of uselessness.

This is a nice collector's item- plus there's some great photos and lyrics inside the cover. When I meet the diva herself, my copy's getting signed!

Great Find! Feb 3 2004
Format:Audio CD
I found this CD the other day used at an FYE, and decided to experiment with Jocelyn's older material. I honestly didn't know this CD existed, but I'm glad I found it. The faster songs on the CD show the evolution from classic freestyle to the new school sounds that are pervasive today, and were probably revolutionary in '94 when the album was released. "Make This Last Forever" starts out slow, then explodes into a hot dance track. Jocelyn's vocals totally work with the music and convince you that she wants the relationship to last. My favorite song is "I've Been Thinking About You", which I was introduced to in the Freestyle's Greatest Beats compilation (volume 10 I believe). The electro-funk elements melt into the freestyle elements with ease, creating a smoothly delivered cut that offers a variety of vocals and beats. "Big Love" is a darker dance track, something that would be perfect in the middle of an extended DJ set. "Only" is a powerful ballad sung over a happy melody, sure to bring a smile to anyone who listens. I recommend this CD for the fast songs. The slower songs offer some good vocals and subject matter, but if you prefer the upbeat, danceable cuts Jocelyn has to offer, give this CD a try. It's a treat, and a fun history lesson.
