This series of vampire novels is absolutely fantastic! JR Ward's writing is wonderful journey of imagination, erotiscm, pathos, love, hate, suspense..and is truly unique! Zadist's story is erotic, sensual and touching. The emotions are deep and you get pulled into the story. She holds nothing back in describing his life as a blood slave! As in real life, sometimes things happen that you wish do not happen. This story is fast-paced! The action is well-described. I love that you cannot predict what the bad guys are going to do and what The Brotherhood are going to do. The actions of all individuals are totally so unpredictable that when it happens - you can't believe it! I love the way she develops the love between the twin brothers, and how they discover that love for each other. I like that sometimes her characters are still flawed in the end of the book. I could not put this book down and even re-read chapters. The emotions evoked by her characters are utterly wrenching. It is very refreshing to read her books and find that there is not a 'cookie-cutter' ending. I look forward to many more of The Brotherhood books! I can't say enough good things about JR Ward's vampire books and style of writing! Except WOW! AMAZING! UNIQUE!...

Book one, "Dark Lover", is released and I am intrigued. Book two, "Lover Beware", releases and I am breathless. But "Lover Awakened"...I am beyond stunned. J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood will always be a coveted group of books on my shelf. Her weaving of each brother's story is flawless. From the young vampire trainees to the astounding leading male, readers will feel every emotion, every struggle that each character faces.

Zsadist harbors, like all the brothers, a dark and tortured soul. In previous books he is touted as a vile man, accused of various crimes and potential ones. What lingers beneath the surface is a lost soul yearning for one that makes him complete--Zsadist just doesn't know it yet. Awakened begins where the previous installment left off, with the search for the missing Bella, a member of the glymera, their aristocracy. Zsadist feels a connection to the beautiful woman and his body is trying to tell him what his heart wants to deny. When he manages to extricate her from their enemies, the Lessers, he vows to destroy the one that took her. How he will manage to do this and keep the growing arousal she causes at bay, he isn't quite sure. And he will have to figure out if what he is fighting are indeed his body's needs or his heart's.

Zsadist's background--that of a blood slave--comes slamming to the forefront in "Lover Awakened". Since his release hundreds of years ago, he hasn't exactly been living life. Just as it seems he's almost become comfortable with the angst and tortured feelings, Bella enters and stirs his buried heart like no other has ever been able to--not even his real brother Phury. Their attraction is the most pulse pounding of the series to date and that's putting it mildly.

I was so in love with this book! After I read this one I knew then that the whole series was going to be just great. I had to get everyone I know to read them! This is the story of Zsadist the one warrior I couldn't stand and really disliked in the previous books. When you learn where it all started and how he got to be who he is, then you get a little understanding as to why he is the way he is. I mean the book is so vivid you want to be the one to "rescue" him! This is just a great story of "beauty and the beast" told in a new Vampire way. Zsadist is so brutal and strong on the outside but when you peel away at the layers of his hurt and turmoil there is such a sweet caring generous person on the inside! I LOVE Zsadist scars and all...and you will too. What a great love story and not to mention all the action in this book! I still have 2 more books to go in the series but this was definitely MY FAVORITE OF THE SERIES BY FAR.

Lover Awakened follow the style of the previous two books, being dedicated mostly to the character developped here : Zsadist. The second book finished with a cliff hanger and right at the start we pick up where we left, in the wirlwind of Zsadist obsession ; finding Bella.

The third installement is loaded with very good subplots and we even tackle the past of our protagonnist and his twin brother Phury. It was a very good book, I liked it as much as the others. The two main characters, Z and Bella are very interesting and althought the story is larger-then-life, in-400-pages-you-will-be-a-gentleman, it is a great read. We also get up close and personnal with characters of the Lessening Society and althought I found the author discard some important members a bit too fast it was still a very good tie-in with the main story.

It's true the main love story drags a bit but not as much as the one in the second book between Rhage and Mary (or maybe I'm just getting used to this style). However, the evolution of their love is great and the denouement wonderful. I did forsee a couple of things right at the start and figured how it would evolve but somehow the author still managed to pull a twist for me at the end (and it wasn't very subtle, but it was out of the main story and didn't pay as much attention to it, so I got caught in the suprise at the end, which was nice).

The only serious problem I had with this story was again the dialect or "Old Language" the vampires are supposed to have. In the first book, I forced myself to get used to the names (because it is so ridiculous) but in this third book the author just add another spoonful of cheese and it was back at case one again for me, trying to get in the story while finding ridiculous the made-up words.
