LOVER BOY IS DYING TO COME OUT AND PLAY.

The rules:
Two weeks before he intends to slowly and sadistically kill his prey, Loverboy sends a collage of the future crime scene to the FBI. If the agents can solve the riddles of the collage in time, they can save the victim. Loverboy thinks that’s more than fair. It’s not his fault the feds have already failed five times.

The players: Rosalind Carnow was last seen alone in her Las Vegas hotel room. No one knows where she is now—except Loverboy, and he’s not saying a word. Imogen Page, an FBI agent with a painful past and uncertain future, may be the only person who can find her—and she is determined to decipher Loverboy’s brilliant but deranged puzzle. If Loveboy lets her get that far.

The game: Imogen matches wits with a homicidal mastermind, a fiercely intelligent opponent. Armed with her extraordinarily keen sense for detection, she must do for Rosalind what could not be done for Loverboy’s previous victims: save her life.

Product Description

From Booklist

Legendary FBI agent Imogen Page has a rare condition called synesthesia, in which her brain transmits sights, sounds, and images as flavors. The mingling of her senses makes her acutely aware of patterns and unusually empathic. That's why the bureau barely gives her time to recover from her brother's death before they haul her back on the case of serial killer Loverboy, who sends collages of his future crime scenes to the feds, taunting them to solve the puzzles before he kills again. He's on his fifth collage. His victim is the reputed paramour of automobile mogul Robert Benton, a take-charge executive who puts his vast resources at Imogen's disposal. She is well aware of what awaits the sadistic Loverboy's victim, and she methodically attempts to piece together the clues laid out in the collage before time runs out. Although the plot strains credulity and Imogen's special gift never lives up to its intriguing promise, this novel offers some fascinating secondary characters, plenty of sprightly sexual banter, a few really bad knock-knock jokes, and plot twists aplenty. This book is a really intense mystery that kept me guessing the whole time I was reading. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes reading an interesting story that holds their attention. Jaffe is a great author, who knows when to keep things serious, and when to add some humor.
