Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

The use of four narrators adds energy, interest and spice to Collins's tale of the glamorous and tawdry lives of the rich and beautiful. Each narrator handles chapters told primarily from his or her assigned characters' point of view. Rather than create full-fledged "character voices," the narrators alter their voices slightly—a deepening here, a hint of an accent there—to make it clear who is speaking. Collins is perfectly cast as Lady Jane, the haughty social climber "with a phony English accent" whose wealthy husband, Red Diamond, refuses to conveniently die and leave her all his money. Sydney Poitier, daughter of the acclaimed actor, is warm and sympathetic in the roles of sweet and conflicted young socialite Amy Scott-Simon and Liberty, a biracial waitress/aspiring singer. Poitier deepens her voice to a sexy drawl to play record mogul Damon P. Donnell and adds some Harlem sass for Cindy, Liberty's cousin. Jack Scalia plays the conniving Red and his gravelly voice is ideally suited to enacting Red's eldest son, real estate mogul Max. Scott Sowers's higher, thinner voice does duty for Red's two younger sons. This lively audio is pure trashy fun that will surely delight Collins's many fans.

From AudioFile

Sex, love, and music are the backdrop for this story of Red Diamond, rich, cruel father, and his three sons, Chris, Max, and Jett, whose lives are decent despite him. The estranged sons are called to New York by Red and end up bonding with each other and working through their crises while fighting off the sadistic actions of their father. Isabel Keating brings the passion of Collins's story to the fore, along with its main and secondary characters, all of whom hope for better lives. Keating portrays the ups and downs of the Diamonds' encounters and entanglements while spinning out Collins's subplots. 5.0 out of 5 stars LISTEN TO A TALE OF ROMANCE AND REVENGE, Feb 16 2006
By Gail Cooke (TX, USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Audiobook listeners will be hard pressed to choose between the Abridged and Unabridged editions of Jackie Collins's latest foray into the lives of the A-List's high and flighty as both releases are extremely well read.

Clear, distinct, positive, compelling, Isabel Keating's voice captured a Tony Award for her star turn as Judy Garland in The Boy From Oz, and that same voice reels listeners in and captures them with her opening description of male model Jett Diamond, he of the incredible good looks and insouciant manner. She is featured on the Unabridged version.

For those who like an ensemble cast reading, here's a top one for you. Jackie Collins joins three actors to deliver the abridged edition of Lovers & Players. Among the cast are Sydney Poitier, who brings a host of screen experience to her reading (she's especially affecting in scenes involving Liberty, who dreams of being a top pop singer), Jack Scalia, whom many will remember from the TV adaptations of Collins's Lady Boss and Hollywood Wives, and last but not in the least bit least is Scott Sowers, an accomplished audiobook reader with stage and screen credits to boot.

Fans of Jackie Collins well know what they're in for with her 24th book, and they can't wait! There's romance, revenge and dirty rotten scoundrels.

Red Diamond, a selfish, bitter billionaire calls his three sons together. That's quite a shock for Jett who is working in Italy and has had no contact with his father or his half-brothers in three years. Nonetheless, he leaves his temporary Italian inamorata and boards a plane. Max is successful in real estate, and third bro Chris is an attorney in La-la-land. Each has been fighting his own private battle, and a confrontation with their manipulative father is all they need.

Toss in Red's black housekeeper, a bi-racial daughter and a swarthy music mogul who is after her plus a quickie between Jett and Max's current fiancé, and you know you're in Collins territory.

There's a lot more scandal than sparkle in the Diamond family, and Jackie Collins holds nothing back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Provacative Read, Feb 14 2006
By A Customer
Deliciously Provacative read from Ms. collins. I have so missed her work, and found this to be a new undertaking by her....delicious just the same. Also I am recommending: The 'Lucky' series of books as well as Katlyn Stewart's, Fire In The Ice.
