Product Description

From Amazon.com

The great appeal of this Oh Boy Records retrospective for most people will be the three previously unreleased tracks by John Prine, the cofounder of the imprint. The veteran singer/songwriter contributes three estimable live tracks to the collection, and guests with R.B. Morris on one track and Donnie Fritts on another. Oh Boy recruits Keith Sykes, the Bisquits, and Heather Eastman round out the cast. All fare respectably, and highlights abound. Stalwart songsmith Sykes's "I Was Right About You" and Eastman's "Miss Liberty" are earthy pop tracks. The Bisquits' "Small Town/Big Hair" and Morris's "World Owes Me," meanwhile, represent stinging Southern rock. And it's nice to hear from journeyman Fritts, who enlists Willie Nelson and a crack crew of Memphis regulars to help out with "The Oldest Baby in the World." --Steven Stolder

Oh Boy! John Prine & Friends Feb 18 2009
By PHILIP S WOLF - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Back when there were still a few record stores open on this planet, I used to seach through the bargain bins for odd-ball recordings and curios.
This sampler from Oh Boy Records, caught my attention because it contained some unreleased tracks by John Prine, and it seemed worthy of the $2.99 asking price.

Without doubt, the three tracks by John, are the best selections contained herein. With live versions of: "Let's Talk Dirty in Hawaiian" "Beautiful World" & "Kokomo" being rare live versions from the singin' mailman, that you will not find anywhere else, this is the place for Prineheads to shop.

The two tracks from Heather Eatman, didn't make my tuna fish sandwich taste any better, and R.B. Morris, was forgetable and ehhhhh. I did like the two songs from the Bis-Quits, that had much of that eighties pop flair and snap of twenty years ago. Donnie Fritts, is an artist that I have enjoyed for years, so he was a very welcome addition to this disc, and: "The Oldest Baby in the World" {with John Prine} is the standout track here.

Again, samplers are hit-or-miss....
You can find somebody new and exciting, or be bored to death.
For fans of John Prine, "Lucky 13" is a good purchase, for the rest of the folks, it is another disc in a record store somewhere {if any record stores, indeed do still exist in this world!}
Three Stars.
