Book Description

May 18 2007 MIRA
Red Duck, Idaho, may be just a speck on the map, but it's perfect for a hardworking single mom looking for a good place to start over. Arriving with recipes, ambition, a silent prayer and two teenage boys, Lucy Carpenter is ready to cook her way into the hearts and wallets of celebrities who frequent the nearby ski resort and watering holes.

But she needs somebody to put the word out -- and that somebody is Drew Tolman, former pro baseball player turned local big shot. She's heard the rumors -- scandal, women and more -- but he's the man Lucy needs on her side. It takes a little effort and a lot of decadence -- in the kitchen -- but word of Lucy's culinary talents spreads like melting chocolate.

Soon everyone's got Lucy's number, but her best caller is Drew. He's eager to convince the deliciously tempting Lucy that she's the dessert he's been saving room for . . .

From Booklist

Single-mother Lucy Carpenter hopes she has made the right decision moving her two sons to Red Duck, Idaho. The upscale ski community should provide ample opportunity for her to work as a personal chef, although rival chef Raul is sabotaging her attempts. He seems to have cornered the cuisine market, so Lucy must carve out her own and turns to the town's Lothario for help. Everyone loves ex-professional baseball player and present-day Little League coach Drew Tolman. All the women are attracted to him, and Lucy is no exception, despite her postdivorce hesitation. But nothing stops her from using Drew to stir up business, while he just wants to stir her. Holm returns to her home state of Idaho with fresh, likable characters who will have readers rooting for the happy ending and relishing every step along the way. Patty Engelmann

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad. Jan 22 2007

I would have liked to read more between the two main characters - Lucy and Drew - so the book could have been 100 pages more. Don't expect a mushy romance novel and it's kind of a letdown that it doesn't go deeper between the two of them but the story is fun to read anyway.

Stef Ann Holm pens a great novel set in Red Duck, Idaho. Lucy Carpenter is a great heroine who moves her sons to Red Duck to begin a new life after she divorces her cheating husband and her older son starts getting into trouble. During her journey to create a new life for herself and her sons, she meets Drew Tolman, a sexy ex-baseball player who is dealing with issues of his own. The chemistry between Lucy and Drew is electric and keeps the reader wondering if they will become a couple. With a cast of colorful characters, the novel is a great read from the beginning to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book Nov 27 2006

Format:Mass Market Paperback
Lucy Gets Her Life Back by Stef Ann Holm is an emotional story about starting over.

Personal Chef Lucy Carpenter decides to change the path of her sons by moving to a small town. Her sons are still dealing with their fathers leaving and the divorce. Lucy needs clients but she has an obstacle in the local personal chef. The local celeb Drew Tolman seems her best shot at spreading the word of her cooking.

Drew Tolman retired from baseball under murky circumstances. He is a big factor in town life, when he sees Lucy struggling to set up her business he offers to help. There is something about Lucy that makes him want to be the man he knows he can be.

Lucy Gets Her Life Back deals realistically with life's ups and downs. The small town bubble is mirrored perfectly in this story. Lucy and Drew are not perfect but their evolution into a couple is priceless. This book will make you laugh and make you cry. It's a joy.
