Arcueid forever..., Mar 10 2005

The 3rd and final DVD brings things to a close...albeit a bittersweet one. Many of the mysteries are unraveled as Shiki's memory returns. Also, more background is revealed on some of the characters.
This series did a good job on it's own as an anime. However, it pales in comparison to the Doujin game it was based on. The anime series itself leaves a lot of loose ends. The redeeming factor is that many of these loose ends can be researched on Tsukihime/Type Moon fan sites.
The character design was excellent and the music was outstanding. It set a perfect atmosphere. The story told in Shingetsutan Tsukihime actually follows one of the many paths that the Tsukihime game has. This story more or less follows Arcueid's "True Ending". It only scratches the surface of the many things that happen when compared to the game. There are loose ends that I am sure many fans will be wondering about.
I highly recommend seeing this anime if you are a fan of mysteries with a deep story and a touch of romance. This is NOT an action movie. I also recommend tempering this anime with information gathered from Tsukihime fan sites (Beast Lair forum comes to mind). It will give even more background information on the supporting characters. My appreciation for Tsukihime increased as I learned more about Arcueid, Shiki, Akiha, Kohaku, Hisui, Ciel, Satsuki and the rest of the Tsukihime characters.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because the series was too short. It really should have been the usual 26 episodes. More character development could have occurred (and of course more Arcueid footage...heh) as well as expand the story on some of the more mysterious supporting characters like Hisui and Kohaku.
I have become a Type Moon fan because of this anime.

A Story Worth It's Weight In DVDs, Oct 12 2011

I've watched this series, from start to finish, four times. Each time I appreciate it more. As two of the other reviews note, it is not an action story. Instead it's a mystery (a very dark one) with a mix of love (romantic, familial and platonic), and the mix is balanced quite well. I also agree with one of the reviews that it would have been nice to have had more but the 26 episode format may have been too much.
All-in-all, I would recommend this for those looking for a story with excellent character development, depth, and good voice acting (Japanese, since I don't do dubbed).

I really must agree with the previous reviewer on at least one issue. The series ending was not really that good with tying up the loose ends of the story. While the hunt for Roa was solved adequitly, the conclusion of the love story between Arceuid and Shiki was nothing short of disappointing. this really should have been a bit longer, but 26 episodes would almost surely be too much for this series. I'm definitely going to do some more research on this, and hope they bring the manga over to the US.
