Product Description

From the Publisher

Dave Naz is a Los Angeles based photographer whose star is very much in the ascendant. An ex-touring musician, Naz originally took up photography as a new means of artistic expression and a way of trying to, as he puts it, "maintain sanity.

Discovering a potential in fetish subject matter that appealed to him, he might easily, some five years ago, have followed the by then well-established route of hiring models for studio shoots and producing standard fetish pin-up material – had it not been for his friendship with one particular professional dominatrix. Through this friendship, Naz found himself being afforded access to the professional and play activities of many leading West Coast fetish scene people, and it is this privileged position, this unique insider viewpoint which informs the photography we find in Lust Circus.

Where other photographers seek simply to perpetuate the familiar visual clichés of fetish fantasy – the stern, whip-wielding dominatrix, the bound and quivering slave – Dave Naz seems equally concerned with capturing the humour and humanity of his subjects. And because of his easy interaction with them, there is a disarming and often deceptive casualness about many of the fetish images he produces. In their vivid colours, jaunty angles and bold cropping, Naz’s pictures of pervs at work and leisure bring something of the immediacy of the Polaroid and the playfulness of the holiday snap to a genre which is often accused of taking itself too seriously. It was this unusual vibrancy that first attracted me to publishing his work in my own magazine.

Invited into the dungeons of top West Coast dominas, Dave Naz photographs these women modelling everything from hardcore fetish finery to the wispiest of lingerie, and captures lustful scenes with slaves that range from light flogging to heavy bondage to hot waxing. Like most fetish photographers, he clearly enjoys shooting girl-on-girl action, but in his images of mistresses with their male clients is demonstrated a refreshing willingness to document the kind of sadomasochism that actually pays the rent. Away from the dungeon, he is equally adept capturing another kind of fetish performance – the kind that involves dressing up and strutting your stuff around the streets, parks, gardens and ubiquitous pools of LA.

Everyone working in the fetish genre got involved for different reasons. Dave Naz may have begun his fetish career more by accident than design, but Lust Circus proves he has what it takes to be a fetish high flyer.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fetish Mardi Gras .. and Dave Naz is the King of Bacchus!, Dec 16 2008
This review is from: Lust Circus (Hardcover)
Lust Circus is the first book from L.A. photographer Dave Naz. It is 160 pages of pure energy. Sexy ladies, stunning beauty, forbidden erotica, all captured Dave's magnificent style and printed in high contrast, lavish color. It's a fetish Mardi Gras and Dave is the king of Bacchus.

In its forward, the renown Tony Mitchell writes, "Where other photographers seek simply to perpetuate the familiar visual clichés of fetish fantasy .. Dave Naz seems equally concerned with capturing the humor and humanity of his subjects. His pictures of perv's at work and leisure bring something of the immediacy of the Polaroid and the playfulness of the holiday snap to a genre which is often accused of taking itself too seriously. .. Dave Naz may have begun his fetish career more by accident than design, but Lust Circus proves he has what it takes to be a fetish high flyer". Lust Circus is a wonderful entry for an artist who will hopefully be around for a long time to come.

During the eighties and early nineties Dave worked as a professional musician but took up photography in 1995 as a new means of artistic expression. Fate quickly played her cards and a friend, who was a professional dominatrix, soon introduced him to the inner sanctum of the west coast fetish scene. And it was there that he thrived. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his dog Mauley.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy Fetish Fun, Oct 13 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Lust Circus (Hardcover)
Lust Circus has a great collection of photos. The colors are vivid and the models look at ease. Not your typical angry looking domme with a whip in her hand. the shots are more candid and some are poolside. All with nice furniture and interesting surroundings. All of the girls aren't beautiful, but I found the book to be worth getting.

3.0 out of 5 stars only 1 out of 3 rings, July 8 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Lust Circus (Hardcover)
On the strength of the other reviews I decided to pick this up. But I found it to be a fairly dissatisfying. Inside were page after page of women who look like over the hill exotic dancers. Heavily made up & dispassionate faces peer out at you. Some of the clothes were fairly interesting, but not enough to make up for the rest.
