Product Description

From Library Journal

Reading this book is almost as much fun as attending one of Lyons's clinics. Although Lyons rides Western, his training methods apply to all horses and riders. From leading a horse to loading the animal into a trailer, he has the answers to all training problems, and his lessons are well organized, easy to understand and follow. Lyons provides information that is invaluable for trainers working with green horses, and he offers owners with older horses advice on how to correct bad habits. A great companion to his videos, this work is recommended for all public libraries and libraries with collections emphasizing equine history and training. It is a must for first-time horse owners as well as veterans.

Book Description

In John Lyons' twenty-nine years of experience in horse trainer instructing, he has become recognized as "America's Most Trusted Horseman." Each year for the past thirteen years, nearly 10,000 horse handlers from all over the world flock to Lyons" horse-training clinics to learn from the man whose step-by-step methods have reared some of the most talented trainers, clinicians, and teachers. Lyons on Horses is the book version of these sought-after clinics; in it, Lyons leaves no stone unturned on the path toward understanding your horse. From his philosophy on horses to facing fear, and from saddling and arena work to trail work, leading, and trailer loading, Lyons guides trainers of all skill-levels and riding styles through his trusted lessons.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most humane horse training methods I have seen, April 3 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Lyons on Horses (Hardcover)
This book is the end all say all of horse training. Not onlydoes John Lyons take you step by step through the creation of anobedient and willing partner, but he does it with out ever hurting or threatening to hurt the horse. By using John Lyons methods your horse becomes willing and eager to do what you ask of him, not bullied into listening through fear of punishment. I would heartily recomend this book to any horse owner who wants thier horse to be a life partner, and not just a beast of burden bullied into cooperating.

3.0 out of 5 stars A generic training aid, Jun 18 2003
By
ELENA J COURTEMANCHE (APO, AE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lyons on Horses (Hardcover)
I felt like this book had a very generic outlook on things. It just didn't go in depth enough to satisfy what I wanted to learn. If you are truly looking to get a better partnership with you and your horse, I recommend Pat Parelli's book: Natural Horsemanship. It just has a more easy to read and more horse savvy format than this book seemed to.

5.0 out of 5 stars a very good guide, Mar 14 2003

This review is from: Lyons on Horses (Hardcover)
I have been using this book as I work with my 7 year old gelding and see a big improvement in his behavior. This book does not replace a clinic or working with a trainer, but it is a good addition to any equistrian's library.
