Rain Barrel Collapsible 74 gallon, April 22 2010

It is a nice and easy to use rain barrel. The only downside is that the holes on the grating is really big which allows small dirt particle and also mosquito to get into the water. It would have been better if the holes were like wire meshing - this would prevent mosquitos from getting in.
It is easy to install and at the moment I have a full barrel of water which I am using in the garden to water the vegetable garden.. being ecofriendly has its benefits as Houston City has just increased their water rates!!!

1. Mine (same model but not purchased from Amazon) was set up on a grass surface. It seemed stable until the first moderate rainfall. The barrel must've filled, then fell over and the force of the water ripped out the stitching on the zipper top. Perhaps weighing it down with some gravel inside and/or burying the legs would help.
2. If you want to connect two barrels, you'll need a hose with female fittings on both ends or a converter. Haven't found one yet
3.The strainer on the top is not fine enough to keep mosquitoes out, so you'll need to add a piece of screening... but the screen may prevent water from flowing into the barrel instead of onto the ground (see next comment)
4. The picture shows a rigid downspout set over the rain barrel, but since the top of the rain barrel itself is not rigid, it's hard to achieve an exact line-up -- set up barrel where some splashing over won't be an issue for your basement.

I bought this item a few weeks ago from another site. The plastic poles used as support bent out of shape due to the sun heating them up after the first day. now they will not bend back. Due to the poles bending, the item will not stand up any longer. the seal on the spigot is a bit of a joke. Do not buy this item. There are lots better items for a little more money that will stand up to some heat and rain. also it needs better screening in order to prevent mosquitoes. all in all a waste of money. I had to run metal stakes into the sleeves in order for this to stand up correctly and not tip over. I have 4 other solid resin barrels that i like and do a great job. I thought i would try this as it is 30 dollars cheaper. you get what you pay for. I will buy another solid one and throw this out in the next two weeks.
