MAGLITE 108-000-890 Glass Lens, C or D Cell

At least one other reviewer mentioned the fragility of this lens and mine proved the same. It did arrive intact through the mail, a small miracle of its own. It installed easily in my Maglite and lasted for the few times I tried it out with the new LED bulb I'd ordered to go with it. Today I found the lens cracked inside the flashlight, and because mine was stored at a very even room temperature, I'm wondering if these glass lenses (1) are susceptible to any uneven physical pressure caused by the flashlight head that holds them in place; (2) are susceptible to any temperature change caused by the LED bulb warming the reflection cone chamber behind them (vs. the outside air temperature); (3) both of these; (4) are just made of an easily breakable type of glass.

Whatever the reason, it wasn't due to any degree of physical shock to the flashlight case itself, since mine had none. My guess is the glass can't take the pressure of the flashlight head being screwed down against it (and holding it in place). At any rate, mine's broken within the first week of 'use' and I had to put the original plastic lens back in place instead. Too bad, because the glass was cut so precisely to size and was very clear, allowing lots of light through it.

Overall, I would not recommend others purchasing this item (both the item price plus shipping) since it's proved so fragile and unsuitable for its intended use.

FRAGILE, FRAGILE, FRAGILE!!

The lenses are what they are....clear glass, should be great for the LED upgrade.
I replace my 15 year old plastic lenses with these supper clear glass lenses along with the LED bulbs. The beam was visibly clearer and I was happy. I put the flashlight on the kitchen counter. The next morning I went to show my wife how sweet the beam was and found the lens cracked in half. It wasn't dropped - just set lens down on the counter. I think it was because it was cold when UPS delivered it and I installed it immediately. It must have expanded slightly as it warmed.

Back to the trusty plastics for me.
