Magnelli a, pourrait-on dire, radicalisé le travail, la recherche et le goût de plusieurs peintres de sa génération, de Matisse en particulier. Par son dessin ferme et angulaire, son tracé noir à la serpe, la surface uniforme de la couleur parfaitement saisie et découpée, hors de toute modulation chromatique, il annonce tout un pan de l'abstraction géométrique et affirme la mise en place d'une architecture des formes en peinture, telle qu'on la retrouvera dans les années cinquante en France et en Amérique. Cette monographie s'appuie notamment sur des témoignages et des documents inédits extraits des archives de l'artiste. Elle comporte, par ailleurs, une importante bibliographie.

This book is fabulous. It not only includes a fabulous collection of color plates, but also has well written information about the artist. Of special interest is the interview with de Kooning, as well as the reprints of writings/lectures by de Kooning.
