A solid book on the subject,
By
This review is from: MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-562) (Hardcover)
Pros: A well written book without spotting any major errors. 70-562 topics are well covered. Completed lab exercise code is available on CD. Works well with SQL Server 2008 Express.Cons: Example code is not available on CD. Custom control and AJAX chapters could be better structured, which I found are the most puzzling topics on their own. The MSDN Client Scripting topics are a good supplement. Deployment doesn't reflect new features of IIS 7.0 such as FTP 7.5.

This is a wonderful book by the authors. Each and every chapter is very well and deeply explained and was able to understand easily. I liked the flow very much and enjoyed reading each chapter. I read each page of the book, read the lesson and chapter summary, worked on the lesson and chapter quizzes and the practise test on CD.Used this book for the 70-562 certification and passed the exam! This is an excellent book I would recommend.

Very Nice Reference Book,
By Austin C# "austinvb" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-562) (Hardcover)
Well, I just took and passed the 70-562 exam. This book was my only written source for the exam. I also looked up things on MSDN once in a while. I found the book to be very well organized and informative, and will keep it as a handy reference on .NET Framework 3.5. I read the entire book and completed most of the exercises and answered all the questions at the end, though I didn't complete the suggested practices. If I had, I would have never finished the book.As far as the test is concerned, if you use this book and nothing else, I can almost guarantee you will not pass the test. A lot of the questions on the test are mostly related to remembering which XML configuration tags to use for specific situations. The questions at the end of the chapters on this book are good but will not help you on the test. I honestly don't know why the authors do that, but I digress... My suggestion is that you supplement this book with Transcender or MeasureUp. I used Transcender and some of the questions on the test were similar to the questions on Transcender, but not many. I didn't use MeasureUp so I can't comment on how effective it is. I had previously taken and passed the 70-536 exam and Transcender was of great help, that amount of help did not apply to exam 70-562. 70-562 is way harder than 70-536. The former had 50 questions, whereas the latter only 40. They give you 3 and a half hours to complete the 70-562 test so that should give you some idea. I wish you good luck because you are going to need it. 10 of 12 people found the following review helpful

Could be better organized,
By MS Cert - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-562) (Hardcover)
I read the book for exam 70-528 first, which is for ASP.NET 2.0. It is nicely written and I am pretty happy about it. This new book for exam 70-562 rearranged some chapters and reformatted the text in addition to adding AJAX and LINQ. In the new book headings, the property names are all upper cases, which are really hard to read. For example, RowStateFilter property is displayed as ROWSTATEFILTER. Also, some examples in early chapters uses the GridView control, which is not covered until Chapter 8. I feel that the key points of each topic could have been better organized.

This book provides a good foundation to take the exam, but I would strongly recommend that you use this book (and its CD with practice exams) in conjunction with other practice tests (such as Measure Up).There are a number of 'holes' in the book that come to light whilst going through practice exams, but these are easily filled via google/MSDN. |
