  • Benq has collaborated with philips lighting in developing the perfect solution - the smarteco technology
  • With the smarteco technology, students and teachers get to make the most out of their classroom experience - and schools reduce the total cost of ownership with extended lamp life and lowered maintenance needs
  • The eco blank mode allows teachers to blank the projection screen whenever they need to direct their students' focus back on them - or simply when the projector is not in use
  • To avoid a projector from running with full lamp power benq created the no source detected mode to lower the projector lamp brightness to 30-Percent after the projector has remained unconnected to a display source for more than three minutes
  • The ms502 gives you the truest, liveliest color ever with advanced brilliantcolor(TM) technology from texas instruments, where mid-tone colors are boosted to heighten brightness levels, making images more precisely rendered than ever

Purchased BenQ MS510 projector... great picture but fan was not working properly. Bulb lasted less than 1,100 hours, returned it for repairs while under warranty. Repair shop said it was just a bad bulb. New bulb lasted less than first one, blew up from overheating. Again took it for repairs (now of course after warranty expired), was told it was bad bulb... again. Put in new bulb, unit would not stay on. Was told by BenQ technical support that if it was not bulb's fault, BenQ would repair under original warranty. Took it back to repair shop, was told the fan wasn't working. BenQ then refuses to repair under warranty. Have spent HOURS trying to rectify situation, bounced from one rep to another, left my contact info countless times and have NOT ONCE received a call back....

The only reason we bought a projector was to show movies in our backyard during the summer nights. Because of this, image quality, sharpness, etc., was very important. Originally, we purchased an Epson HDMI projector which cost us about $750. We used it one night and were blown away by the quality, but, come the following day were having a hard time stomaching the price (for something we would only really be using during the summer, weather permitting) and returned it.

Unfortunately, the idea for the backyard movies wasn't returned with the projector, so we set out to find a VGA projector of comparable image quality and sharpness. After extensive research and lots of review reading, we settled on the Benq MS502 2700L SmartEco SVGA DLP Projector. It was about half the cost of the HDMI and, for our purposes, was just as amazing. We had a chance to watch Pulp Fiction and JAWS - all projected onto a hanging white bedsheet, I might add - and, to be honest, we couldn't even really tell the difference between the SVGA and HDMI one we had previous to this one.

I write this review as someone who has only used this projector for a backyard movie. We will never use it for presentations and likely not for indoor use, so I can't speak for the image under these settings. But, I imagine if the quality was this good outside in a backyard, it would be just as good for presentations and inside a living room.

So far a great machine, everything we were looking for. Too soon to rate on the longevity or durability of the product, as it has only been in use now three days. We have however been exploring its many functions, we have not the equipment for 3d, but its 2d options are great. The only projector we have seen with "smarteco" it actually adjusts the lamps output to match the image being projected. BenQ claims that this feature can extend the lamp life to 6500 hours, we'll see. The cooling fans are quite. The ceiling fan makes more noise, even with the unit set to high altitude we live at about the recommended altitude for this setting. If BenQ asked me what they could do to make it just a little better, I would recommend the ability to adjust left to right keystone. As it is you really need to be dead on straight with the projection surface. I may add additional reviews as the product ages.

We have been using this projector as a television(more often just to fill the house with noise. It is operated from 4:30(when my wife gets up) to 7:30(when I leave) and again from 7:00(when we get home) to 11:00(when we go to bed) Monday through Friday, longer on weekends when we are home, or not when we are away. That I understand this is a lot of hours, the internal timer tells me 6327 lamp hours sence I installed it, Picture still lookes great. The projector has been telling me for a while that I should replace the lamp. Did so this last week and reset the timer. For those who buy the whole assembly(from BenQ) this only requires the removal of two phillips screws swap out the assembly, power and reset in the menu. If you bought the bare lamp(recomend Phillips only) be careful what you touch, be patient and gentiel, and clean, I had little trouble, but I can see where others might get in trouble. This continues to be a great investment.

Thanks to the ratings and reviews on here, I am thoroughly satisfied with this projector.

It's very bright. I can use it during the day outdoors under a tent when doing outdoor classes and the projector is very bright and can easily be seen.

I've gotten many compliments with it and their surprised at the quality because no ones heard of this brand around here.

I'm very happy with the product. It's not too heavy and the carrying case is a huge plus! I use this with my macbook pro (which requires an adapter).

HASH(0x9b216a8c) out of 5 stars Terrific projector! Dec 5 2013

Spectacular projector for the price. I use this 1-2 times a week for my busines and the quality is evident. The controls are easy and the image adjustment is versatile. Good heat management during use and excellent venting during shutdown - never picked up a hot projector yet! Quality styling and construction, as well as good connectivity options.

While the resolution is pretty good, it doesn't really stack up to a high resolution/definition projector. If that's what you're seeking, be prepared to pay the added price for that. For this product's resolution, it really depends on the device feeding it, but so far no complaints from people watching my presentations.

Do yourself a favor and keep the original foam pads and box when you get this. The carrying strap and protection are great considering that they are free with the price. No need for a fancy projector bag immediately.

I have yet to use the remote, so I can't comment on that, but the low profile and small battery (included!) make it very light and ergonomic. Stows away quite easily in the box.

[I may even consider getting another one for the house or home office...]
