About the Author

Native Californian Sylvie Hogg (Lead writer, The Basics, Rome & Lazio, Florence & Tuscany, Umbria, Bologna/Emilia-Romagna, Venice & the Veneto, Naples & Campania, Sicily chapters) moved to Rome after graduating from Dartmouth and spent five fabulous years working as a tour guide and travel writer. She now lives in New York City and writes about Italy for several publications in the US and UK. She loves rock n’ roll, and is always planning her next trip. She is the author of Frommer’s Irreverent Guide to Rome and Frommer’s Rome Day by Day.

Brad Archer (The Basics) lives in New York City, where he currently does International Marketing for MTV and can be found singing with the Juilliard Choral Union, daydreaming by the Hudson, or out on the live music circuit.

South African-Canadian Taryn Firkser (Venice & the Veneto, Liguria & the Italian Rivera, Naples & Campania chapters) has a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and a Master’s degree in Tibetan Studies and hopes to one day make a career of traveling the world.

Budget-airline jetsetter Anne Laurella (Bologna & Emilia-Romagna, Sicily chapters) divides her time between her native Stockholm, Sweden, and Rome. She can be spotted lounging on the beach in Sicily or eating prosciutto with her partner-in-crime, Sylvie. Anne recently launched her own editorial company.

Andre Legaspi (Florence & Tuscany, Umbria, Bologna & Emilia-Romagna chapters) was born and raised in Queens, New York and attended McGill University in Montreal, where he wrote CD reviews and covered the music scene.

John Moretti (Florence & Tuscany, Venice & the Veneto, Milan & the Lakes chapters), has written for The International Herald Tribune, The Independent on Sunday, Italy Daily, New York Sun, The Associated Press, and FT Online. He’s also the author of Frommer’s Florence, Tuscany & Umbria.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable (especially for students or solo travelers), Aug 25 2007

This review is from: MTV Italy (Paperback)
I picked this book up thinking I would laugh at the ridiculous petty advice and "MTV Book" would give. WRONG. So very very wrong. Just flipping through it initially, I knew it would serve me well for my 2 months in Italy. This guidebook isn't your typical, stuffy "tourist book" (geared at senior travelers usually)....it is divided into regions and cities, and offers the usual info re: main sites, train info, general cost etc.....as well as ESSENTIAL bits for students or those trvaeling solo. Internet points (accurate, although some hours of operation were off, but it happens), laundromats, places to rent cell phones, cheap food, snack food, best places to party [if you prefer to party with your fellow Americans,,,,or, like me, if you want to avoid them!] general club rules, clothing style (up to date) etc....I also enjoyed that each section contained its own "occhio!"....which essentially is a word of warning about their own negative points/seedy sections. Each region of Italy is very different from another, and this book illustrates this VERY WELL. I would say this is a MUST WN for anyone who will be spending more than a week or 2 in Italy.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are under 30 and going to Italy, buy this book!, Nov 20 2006

Well I should start with I haven`t used the book in Italy yet so I can`t be sure about the acuracy of the information, but I have been to Italy before so I know what to look for in a good Italy guide.

It lists a lot of the useful info like where to meet people and what clubs to go to depending on what you are looking for. I plan on visiting Museums and Churchs while in Italy but I don`t need a guide book to tell me which ones to go to. I use a book to tell me good places to eat, sleep and party and this one seems to cover the bases.

Overall worth getting
