MacBook for Dummies April 13 2011

Overall a good source for answering my questions. I am new to Mac Computers as I had Windows-based computers for the last 27 years. I bought this book sort of as a instruction manual since the computer didn't come with much of a detailed manual. Most of what I was looking for was in the book and was easy to understand.

MacBook For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech)) (Paperback)
I bought several books to help me understand how to use my Macbook Pro. This was the only book that helped me. It had all the essential things you need to know to help you get the most out of your Macbook. I highly recommend it.

A lot to wade through Feb. 15 2012
By JWC - Published on Amazon.com

The author's jolly and lighthearted style is for me an encumbrance in getting to the heart of learning how to work my new MacBook Pro. When I opened the box of my new computer, inside was the computer and some foam packing. No printed instructions of any kind. "This is great...totally intuitive." I had to call retailer, after a couple of hours of frustration, in order to find out that I had to do more than just tap the touchpad to enter a command. I had to push down make to it click in order for it to work. When I got to the desktop I was faced with a learning process based on trial and error. At that point I ordered MacBook for Dummies. Not a great way to transition from Windows.

If the author had followed one of Mark Twain's rules for writing, "eschew surplusage," I think the book would have served me better. I don't plan on giving up. At this point I am not buying anymore guidebooks for the MacBook Pro until I trod through Mr. Chambers' 3rd Edition hoping that I will be able to uncover his gems of knowledge and find peace with my new computer.

Downer Sept. 5 2011

This book is so elementary and dated that it isn't worth what it costs to return it. The new operating system for Apple products has overtaken it, and it should be retired. Even as a new MacBook owner I should have known better!
