Meanwhile, Casey's parents decide that Matt should no longer see Casey, and they forbid him to see her. She takes a handful of pills and ends up in rehab. Matt comes and breaks her out and they start on their cross country trip. However, there are mishaps along the way. They wreck their car and find that money is hard to come by. Casey has another bout with depression, and finally they are forced to return home.
Overall, I thought this was a good movie. I thought Barrymore and O'Donnell gave good performances, and I really liked Barrymore's character. Watch this movie; I think you'll enjoy it.
I just saw it today and missed the first half hour of it, but I know what it's about.
Matt and Casey are high school lovers. When Casey is locked up in a hospital for trying to kill herself, Matt doesn't wanna let her go so he sneaks her out of there and they run away, heading for Mexico. They stop...somewhere (forget where) and Casey gets her little mood-swingy personality back. Matt gets a bit freaked out and finds out from Casey's mom that Casey has bad psychological problems and really needs help.
Casey finds out about this, that Matt called her mom and she plans to kill herself, but Matt catches her on a hill or a cliff or whatever that was, something with sand, and she doesn't shoot herself, rather she gives in and lets him take her back to be hospitalized for her illness.
A very good movie, from what I saw of it.
And Drew Barrymore played with honesty, because from what I've heard she's been in just about the same situation as Casey.
Get this plot...some rich spoiled girl feels sorry for herself and feigns insanity. Some rich spoiled guy knows her for about a week and is suddenly in love with her. So the logical thing to do, of course, is steal a car and run away. Where are they going? Who knows. The girl is a rule breaker, and that's what is supposed to make her so coooooool.
So the two drive off cross country in their newly acquired car, breaking rules. Then at the end, they go home, and the girl is rightfully sent to a sanitorium. End of movie. No plot. No lesson. No mop thick enough to soak up the drool that's collected on the section of floor directly under my slightly open, dumbstruck mouth.
Drew should've carried through with her threat to put a bullet between O'Donnell's eyes. I would've given it five stars for that scene alone.
