1.0 out of 5 stars A commentary about commentaries... Nov. 11 2013
Format:Blu-ray
I've happily support all of the previous DVD/Blu-Ray releases of AMC's Mad Men. I found them wonderful to watch and great value for the price. I especially enjoyed the many commentaries attached to each season's release. At times there would be as many as 2 commentaries per episode. At 13 episodes a season it provide a greater insight into the creative process of bringing this wonderful show to life.

It seems as if season 6 marks the end of all that enjoyment. There is not a single commentary attached to any of the episodes. IT seems as if the money spent for this extra was not available or possibly the cast and crew involved are no longer interested in examining the world that they've created in greater detail.

I'll admit that sometimes the commentaries provided were not all that interesting...inside jokes were often the norm. But I've often listened to some of them over and over just for the joy of participating in the creative process that brought the show to our screens.

Do I want a little something extra than just the episodes when I buy a box set?...Yes. I'm even willing to pay for it. Sadly, I paid the same price for season 6 without commentaries that I did for season 1-5 with commentaries. I am disappointed. Maybe they're saving everything for the final season....maybe I'll save my money.

1.0 out of 5 stars just the beginning Nov. 17 2013
By Filmfan TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Blu-ray
Cutting back on the commentaries is just the beginning of the rip off. Fans will have to pay twice as much for Season 7 because AMC plans to split season 7 into two parts of 7 episodes each similar to what they did with Breaking Bad. That means they can rip off the fans even more by charging the same price for a 7 episode Blu-ray as they did for 13 episodes. Make fans pay more for less product is the name of the game.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Commitment to the Commentaries Feb. 19 2014
By Glen
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I love this show but one of the reasons I buy the seasons on DVD were for the commentaries by Matthew Weiner and the cast,

In previous DVDs editions there were often 2 commentaries for each episode.

Where are they in Season 6?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Season Jan. 28 2014
By Bernie Koenig TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
We love this show. Can't wait for the end.

This season gets very complex both as far as the business is concerned and about Don's personal life, and how one is affecting the other.

Some issues got raised that I feel did not get explained properly, but that is a minor complaint. This show delivers incredible drama and incredible acting. I like how more time is spent on Peggy. In many ways this show could just as easily have been called the Peggy Olsen show since she typifies so much of what went on with women in the 60s.

The merger of the two agencies to get the Chevy account was great, but, of course, it also leads to other problems.

Not sure how much more to say except that when the show first came out, it did not look like something I would want to watch. And now I am hooked.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed Nov. 7 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
To be clear, I'm not disappointed with the show. Mad Men is brilliant and my favourite program. I am disappointed that there are no commentaries on the Season 6 DVD. I have always enjoyed the commentaries hugely, and I cannot understand why they have dumped them this season. Even more disappointing is that the product description here on Amazon says it has commentaries. Boo hiss.

5.0 out of 5 stars SEASON 6 Sept. 21 2013
By Jet Lagged TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Blu-ray
Season 6 of Mad Men opens circa Xmas 1967. It is as addictive a series as ever. This season is composed of 13 episodes.

Things take a little time to warm up. Are the first few episodes slightly frayed at the edges? It's not quite as sharp early on but still as interesting as ever. The Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy assasinations appear on the tv screens in these episodes which fix the time period.

And so we move through the swinging sixties. Just look at some of those outfits! And now finally the tempo really starts to pick up and matters become engrossing.

Spoiler alert.

This end of the season features a shocker with Don and his ad agency. He confronts his own inner demons with his Dick Whitman persona - or should that be the other way around? Is he really on a downward spiral (again!)? Perhaps this is all a part of his growth process?

Will his past finally catch up with him? Will he fall apart? In general, though Don has certainly got himself into awkward situations over the years, he has proven to be quite resourceful in dealing and coping with them.

Matt Weiner has said that the next Series 7 is to be the last. It is set to air in April 2014. This Season 6 certainly ends in great alignment for the grand finale of Season 7.

Can Don turn things around in the situation he now finds himself in?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series Dec 24 2013
By THOMAS J GOWDYK TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Mad Men is an awesome series and because it is set in the late fifties, early sixties it brings back a lot of memories of simpler times. There are very similar ads for the real products that they mention, that I can remember from my childhood.

The only reason to buy a box set is the commentaries by cast and crew...none on this box set. Very disappointed. Boo hiss.
