Product Description

Nadia Stafford isn’t your typical nature lodge owner. An ex-cop with a legal code all her own, she’s known only as “Dee” to her current employers: a New York crime family who pays her handsomely to bump off traitors. But when Nadia discovers that a troubled teenage employee and her baby have vanished in the Canadian woods, the memory of a past loss comes back with a vengeance, and her old instincts go into overdrive.

With her enigmatic mentor, Jack, covering her back, Nadia unearths sinister clues that point to an increasingly darker and deadlier mystery. Now, with her obsession over the case deepening, the only way Nadia can right the wrongs of the present is to face her own painful ghosts — and either bury them for good, or die trying. Because in her book, everyone deserves a chance. And everyone deserves justice.

1.0 out of 5 stars NorthernReader, Nov 25 2009

L. Lim "SF reader" (Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've read almost all of Kelley Armstrong's books, and this may be the worst. The characters are not believable - a female assassin who kills only "bad" people. Spare me! The plot and complications are predictable - the obligatory love triangle is obvious. I'll give you an example of the poor writing and thought from this book. In the climactic scene the heroine kills all her opponents by shootng them in their foreheads. She then arranges the scene to make it appear that they killed each other. If you've fired a handgun, then you know that aiming is much harder than it appears in the movies. It is simply not credible that a professional, experienced killer, which is how the protagonist is portrayed, would be so stupid as to think that police would believe amateurs are good enough to shoot each other in the foreheads. I wonder if the author has ever fired a handgun. In other words, I don't believe that the author actually did enough research to write credibly. A really poor effort from an otherwise outstanding author.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked reading this book, May 7 2009
I found this book good, and I purchased the 2nd one just to see what happens, but not much there. I was kind of disapointed in the love departement because there was not much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great new series!, Sep 11 2009
I love Kelley Armstrong's other series, so I started this one too, hoping it would be as good. I was not disappointed! She creates a great new character in her first book in this series and this book keeps it going. I can't wait to read the next one!
