Product Description

Demetri knows giving in to Malstrum’s desires will protect his band of miners, but the heterosexual Earthling will struggle with violent courtship rituals on a planet devoid of women.

Demetri messed up in the military and now must serve as a miner on Earth's ally planet Secren. This is the last place he wants to be. Earth men are considered small and cute to the violent Secren men. Demetri already ran a mine on the ice world Donovan. This gives him enough notoriety for mine overlord Malstrum to take an interest in him.

It seems cut and dry that he's going to rebuff Malstrum and make it on his own, but Secren is a brutal world. The male population are all slave miners desperate to reach their quotas. As an Earthling Demetri is an easy mark to get robbed or killed.

Giving in to Malstrum is the only way Demetri can survive. The charismatic mine overlord decides to make it easy for him.

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete ripoff, buyer beware Dec 27 2011
By Rebecca Schroeter - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This is only the first chapter of a book. It introduces the characters and conflict then ends abruptly. I expected it to be a whole book or at least a short story, it is after all called an e-book. It's absolutely despicable to sell a book chapter by chapter. Its misleading and there is no way to judge how much of an investment you are getting into to continue to read it. It is exactly 45 pages. Content aside I am disgusted by the business practices of this publisher and will never buy from them again.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not a book it is a chapter Oct. 28 2011

The key to this "book" that was not obvious to me is that it is not a whole story or the first in a series. Essentially it is the first chapter of a book. I am not paying $2/chapter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Maelstrom Review June 27 2011

Why did I like this story so much? I thought the plot was interesting and different from many of the other books of this genre type that I have read. I like when a story/book has a unique plot. I'm into sci-fi, and I like the sci-fi elements of this story. I really like how the main character, Demetri, who is being pursued by another character, that he is totally uninterested in, doesn't give in to the other guys advances. I like that he does his best to stands his ground and put up a fight for his beliefs. That sort of thing creates conflict and that's a quality that I think makes a story good and which I really enjoy in a story, especially if there is romance involved in the story. I was impressed by how much personality Demetri's brain box had. And I thought he was excellent comedy relief. Okay, this next statement may be a spoiler, so if you don't want anything spoiled, then you may not want to read this next statement. From a summary of the story that I had read, I thought that Maelstrum was a going to be a brute and that he was just going to try to force Demetri to do what he wanted him to do, but so far he isn't like that. And I really liked that about him. So I think the main characters are well-developed. I liked this story so much, it's hard to wait for part 2 and I really hope that there is going to be a part 2 and that part 2 is available soon. I don't like when stories with multiple parts end with a big cliff-hanger. And this story ends with a bit of a cliff-hanger. It's not too bad, but it's about the only thing that I didn't like about the story. I also thought that it was a little short in length; I wish it had been a little longer. I had expected it to be a bit longer, so I also found the length to be a bit disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really imaginative March 5 2013

Bought the first one because someone suggested it to me and ended up buying them all. The plot might not be the most complicated in the world and sometimes was easy to see ahead of but she surprised me once or twice and the characters are just so well done that I'm willing to give this all five stars just for that alone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Maelstrom 1 Dec 10 2011

I'm sorry to give a one star review to a very few pages that deseve at least two stars. I mean really, what are "numbs"? It did seem that that it was shaping up to be a nice bit of porn but a buck forty-nine for ten minutes of reading would be way too much at half the price. If they start selling them as a complete book I'd buy one in the hopes of finding out more about "numbs".
