Another adventurous voyage on a smoky "Tin Can".,
By
This review is from: Maelstrom: Destroyermen (Mass Market Paperback)
Really enjoy this series. A very well crafted storyline with believeable characters. The plot and roughly how many sequels to come becomes fairly evident at the conclusion of each edition buit you are captured by the originality and outright believeability of both plot and characters.Without the retro twist to the whole story, if you enjoy a sea faring adventure, Mr. Anderson has "Brine" covering his manuscript. The comparison that comes to mind is the Naval adventures as written by the UK's Douglas Reeman. The characters are very human, not diffcult to arrive at an emphetetic plane with any of them, even those that your are supposed to not like. Good adventure, skillfully written to produce a page turner along with an eager anticipation for the next edition of the adventure. More "Tin Can" stories like that pleae.

Bravo Zulu Destroyermen!!,

I've really enjoyed reading this series so far. Taylor Anderson has spun a really wonderful yarn in this final book of the Destroyermen trilogy. Although I am a huge fan of Alternative Reality fiction, I wasn't expecting to like this series because of the rather outlandish premise. Evolved lizards...maybe. Evolved lemurs?? I didn't think so.Anything I'd say about the plot of this final book of the trilogy would risk being a spoiler. But, if you enjoyed the other two books, you will not be disappointed. If you didn't enjoy them...why are you buying a third one? I've really come to enjoy the crew of the U.S.S. Walker and their Lemurian allies. Anderson makes this series work. It's exciting and well-written and I've become quite fond of the characters he has created. Yes, you have to suspend disbelief here and there, but there is plenty of humor and this has been a pleasant escape from day to day activities. I look forward to seeing more tales from this alternate universe...he leaves plenty of room for new adventures to come. I bought the kindle version. I chafe at the price that is only slightly less than the hardbound and only purchased at this price during a weak moment. I contend that the Amazon's and the publisher's business models for ebooks are fundamentally flawed. I only purchased this one because I was heading out on travel and desperate for a good book. I've been routinely passing up other ebooks similarly priced as I am sure others have as well. Also, there were some minor formatting problems here and there in the kindle edition. However... Bravo Zulu to Taylor Anderson! Recommended!! 5 of 6 people found the following review helpful

The Best of Escapist Fiction,

Let's be real here: Books like this are unlikely to be a focus in many college literature classes... but people like me will be voraciously reading them as long as they are produced. The Destroyermen series embodies all that's enjoyable in alternate universe science fiction. I prefer having a connection to my own world and this book has them... in this case, WWII U.S. and Japanese Navy sailors and their ships. Also, being a student of naval history and ships, I can attest that Taylor does a good job in portraying the equipment and the men. The rest is pure imagination and I love it. The bad guys are really bad and the good guys are resourceful and hard working. I'm a techy kinda guy and there's enough of that to keep me happy and, I think, not too much for those less interested in vintage marine tech and naval gunnery. The characters are fun, if a little predictable, and the plot is simple, but one of the classics. This book, and the rest of the series, holds up against any in it's genre. After digesting it, you won't regret the purchase price. You may even be a little reluctant to haul it off to the paperback trader.

Excellent Action, History and Monkey Cats?,
By C. Gilbert "Artillerist" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Maelstrom: Destroyermen (Mass Market Paperback)
Or Cat Monkeys depending on whether you are a Deck Ape or Bilge Rat. Wonderful storyline set in a parallel timeline alternate universe. Taylor has always loved the genre so I am glad he is able to write for it now. The fourth book is on its way as are the subsequent in the series. He is working hard on them and I know they will be equally exquisite in historic detail and fanciful story. Yes, Taylor is a personal friend but I would have recommended this series to anyone who loves history and science fiction hybrids. Well researched and written on WWII equipment for those who like the gritty details and wild imagination of worlds for those who admire the foreign climes.
