Book Description

March 25 2008 Kate Daniels (Book 2)
As a mercenary who cleans up after magic gone wrong, Kate Daniels knows how waves of paranormal energy ebb and flow across Atlanta like a tide. But once every seven years, a flare comes, a time when magic runs rampant. When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack, Atlanta's paramilitary clan of shape shifters, she quickly realizes much more is at stake. The stolen maps are only the opening gambit in an epic tug of war between two gods hoping for rebirth, and if Kate can't stop the cataclysmic showdown, the city may not survive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kate Daniels book 2 Aug. 10 2014

Magic Burns is the second book in the Kate Daniels urban fantasy series. Ilona Andrews is a husband/wife writing team with many books to their credit. The Kate Daniels series is,so far, their best known works.
This series takes place in the future in a world that is devastated by waves of magic followed by Tech waves. In the magic waves magical things can be done. In the Tech wave technology ( cars, electricity etc.) Work again. Also, these waves have varying degrees of strength.
Anyways Kate is basically an investigator for official order departments as well as a P.I. I don't like giving away plot details in reviews and would rather let the reader discover that for themselves.
These books are very well written and action oriented. That said the characters say kind leave an impression on the readers. Kate is feisty, irreverent, physical and yet has a strong moral centre. She's a kick ass hero of the first degree.
Buy this book and this series. I think the book could be read as a stand alone as their is some explanatory paragraphs here and there but it is, naturally, best to read each book in order.
4 1/2 out of 5. Great series.

4.0 out of 5 stars A real thrill ride March 2 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have to say when I started Magic Burns I was feeling a bit ho-hum about the story and it took a while to immerse myself in the world. Then, all of a sudden, the book seemed to take off and I couldn't put it down. I had to see the next mess Kate finds herself in and I had to find out what happens between her and Curran. I was burning with curiosity about where everything was going. I was totally hooked for the action and for Kate and Curran. I immediately purchased the next two books in the series so I could keep going. I am loving it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read! Aug. 6 2008
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is a sequel to Magic Bites (also highly recommended) that is as good or even better then the first.

Illona Andrews has created a world that has a unique spin on old tropes. Were's AREN'T trapped as either mindless animals or tormented humans -- they live by a code to control their instincts. Vampires AREN'T sex on the hoof -- they are undead 'driven' by necromancers & magic hasn't decided if it's staying or not. Every so often technology dies as magic 'flares' out into the world - causing havoc as creatures spawn & others are summoned by humans looking for an easy road to power.

The safety of the populace is in the hands of the cops (if it isn't magical), the mercenary guild (if you can afford it) or the Knights (who do what they deem 'right' whether or not you agree).

To read a sample find Illona's webpage -- you won't regret it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic Burns April 14 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Ilona Andrews has created an amazing magical/tech world with surprises on nearly every page. The 2nd of three novels in the "Magic" series so far we learm more of the character Kate Daniels mercenary for hire and slayer of things magical. I can't really say too much, [because I din't want to give the plot away] other than I bought Ilona's first book in the series and have now got the other 2. All of which I read the same day I purchased from cover to cover. They are great books in the genre and I eagerly look forward to the next one.
