1.0 out of 5 stars Wasted my money and my precious time. Jun 26 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book "Nikon D5100, Multimedia Workshop" was the greatest book disapointment in years. It's not a Nikon D5100 book at all. It's only a general guide to people who want to know more about digital cameras; it mentions nothing about the Nikon D5100 except a quick reference wallet card, one page of the book. The book's jacket gives the impression that this Magic Lantern book reveals info about the Nikon D5100, but no, never does. Also I don't know why the word "Workshop" is in the tite? Assuredly, a misleading title. I gave it away for charity at Value Village, taking out the misleading book jacket and title and added a note on the cover of the real topic: "Understanding Basic Digital DSL Camera",the honest title of it. And the word BASIC is what it talks about. Here are a few titles mentioned: What is a D-SLR camera?, What are the user-controlled exposure modes P,S,A,AE,M. What is an ISO, WB and AF?, etc..... I can't believe that this book sells for $29.95 + a 13% tax in Canada or was even published except to attract victims like me .... a waste of time and money for 64 pages of kintergarden info about DSLRs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nikon D5100 Multimedia Workshop Aug 3 2012
By Hopper
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is my first DSLR camera and I find this book to be an excellent starting point for learning how to use my new camera. The book's 64 pages do an excellent job of covering the basics without going into great detail and the quick reference card is a very helpful guide. The best part for me is the two DVDs. The Great Photos DVD is an excellent reference packed with useful information. I would recommend it for any level of photographer with any type of camera. The second DVD the Nikon 5100 DVD is packed with useful information and is very easy to navigate. I have used it many times. This book would be best suited for photographers, like me, who are new to DVCR cameras.

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely generic book Aug 14 2011

Embarrasingly generic book with pictures of other cameras not pictures of the D5100. Amazing that with millions of people out of work they do this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Generic Book Oct 9 2011
By jacobwei - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book has 2 very good DVD's on the D5100 itself and a 2nd on Digital SLR's generally. It also has a very
small fold up card that covers the controls of the D5100. But the print is so small that you need a magnifying
glass to read it.

But the actual book is a rip-off. It has a very basic and small book that is so generic as
to be less than useless for understanding the D5100.
The book has a fancy cover that says D5100, but the book never mentions it once. The text is
so old that it was probably written a few years ago.

If they had sold a 2 video set then I probably would have considered buying it. But there are
better free tutorials on You Tube from Nikon and some accessory suppliers.

Get any of the other D5100 books on sale from Amazon. I bought 3 of them along with this book
and each has a different point of departure. And I got very useful and different information from
each

1.0 out of 5 stars Pass this book by Nov 6 2011
By Jack Merritt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is a disgrace to both Multimedia Workshop and Amazon who features this trash. This book is outdated and generic. To give you an idea, they have a graph showing how many pictures that can be stored on different size memory cards and the highest is 4GB! The D5100 is not mentioned specifically once in the book. All they did was make a new jacket.
