Dark Mafia Romance, Dark Gritty Romantic Suspense, Mob Romance

*** Quarter-finalist for the 2014 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards! ***

"I just love Dana's writing, the plot is very well thought out, fast paced and full of action, and as I've said before with her work, every word is relevant. The story has everything, romance, revenge, 'blood', 'honor', suspense, action, you name it this book covers it. Dana Delamar is definitely an author to watch." - Jane, Lindsay and Jane's Views and Reviews blog

A son determined to avenge his family. A daughter desperate for peace. Two fathers intent on destruction...

Enrico Lucchesi never wanted anything to do with the Mafia. But when his brothers were murdered, he accepted that he would someday be the next don. However, he doesn't accept that he must marry the daughter of the man who killed them. Enrico will never trust an Andretti, never mind love one. The Andrettis are up to something with their so-called "truce"--and Enrico must avenge his siblings. But will his dark secret spell the end of his vengeance--and possibly the Lucchesis?

After Antonella Andretti's father tries to destroy the Lucchesis, she persuades him that an alliance--achieved by her marriage to Enrico, the "golden boy" she's loved from afar--would be in everyone's best interests. As her wedding day approaches, people close to her father start dying, and her fiancé's behavior is suspect. When she learns Enrico's true feelings about her--and what her father's actual plans are--will Antonella damn their families to eternal war, or will she broker a peace that might destroy her heart?

Excerpt:

Antonella reached the terrace before Enrico did and plopped herself onto a bench in the shade below a large tree. She grinned up at him in triumph. "Told you I'd beat you," she said when he arrived.

He leaned over her and gripped the lacy metalwork that supported her back, caging her in while he caught his breath. "You were distracting me."

"How?"

"I couldn't take my eyes off you," he murmured. Leaning closer, he made his request. "Let down your hair," he whispered in her ear, letting his breath wash over her skin, making her shiver.

She hesitated, then reached up to the base of her neck and loosened the tie holding everything in place, lightly shaking her head to let the thick waves fall free. When it tumbled around her shoulders, he smiled. This close, he could see every lash that fringed her large liquid eyes, eyes that looked away from his with sudden shyness. He gently took hold of her chin and made her look at him.

He studied her face, every inch of it--the flawless olive skin, the high cheekbones, the lush tremble of her lips, the long slope of her nose, the slight bump in it--and he realized something. Antonella Andretti was beautiful. Not in some fairytale princess way. But in a real way. Although her cheeks grew pink under his scrutiny, she didn't break eye contact this time.

The molecules of air between them seemed to thicken, time slowed down, his heart ceased to beat. All he wanted in that moment was to kiss her. He started to close the distance, mere centimeters between them--

She slid out from under his left arm and dashed out of reach. "Catch me if you can, Enrico Lucchesi!"

This time she took off across the grass, heading uphill toward the house and a loggia with three vine-covered arches.

Had she known what he'd been about to do? Did she not want to kiss him? Or was she just making him work for it?

4.0 out of 5 stars SALIVATING FOR MORE MALIVITA July 23 2013
By Yankeelin - Published on Amazon.com
Malavita is fairly short book that allows you to finish it in one night, but be prepared for little to no sleep!
Evidently it is a prequel to a series i have yet to read but as a stand alone it is top notch. Love, murder, mafia family, fast-paced, and hooked from page one- can i say more? Sure. But read it for yourself and you'll be begging for more....an awesome writer has chosen an awesome subject to delve into and characters that come alive on a printed page.
I gave it 4 stars because there is no 4.5 option...

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting & Steamy Prequel to 'Revenge' & 'Retribution' July 15 2013
By MommanCali - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
**DISCLAIMER** I was provided a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Once again, Dana has drawn her reader into the world of the Mafia, this time, she transports her reader to the very beginning, when Enrico and Antonia meet and fall in love. In this much anticipated prequel, Dana does NOT let her reader down.

Watching how Toni and Rico go from basically being enemies to eventually falling in love, the reader understands more about Rico and why he does what he does in "Revenge" and "Retribution", at the same time, you also want them fall in each other's arms and ignore their families strife and just do what THEY think is best and stop playing around. The love scenes are as intense as the action scenes as they leave the reader on the edge of their seat and wanting more. Unlike in some novellas in this genre, the love scenes and action don't feel forced or out of place, they are natural and realistic.

With a delicate undercurrent of what happens in the following novels, I was compelled to read late into the night finishing, `Malavita'.

Dana grabs her reader's attention and doesn't let go until the very last page; and even then, she leaves you wanting to read `Revenge" (if you haven't already - shame shame shame on you... go READ it) and the follow up, "Retribution".

Once again, Dana has captured my heart and attention with her larger than life Mafioso characters and brings them to a whole new level and depth in her much anticipated prequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great romantic suspense July 18 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

In 1982 Enrico Lucchesi's mother and two brothers are murdered by an order from Carlo Andretti. A couple of years later Enrico has returned to Italy from England to fulfill a marriage contract. In order to end the feud between the Lucchesi's and the Andretti's he must marry Antonella (Toni) Andretti.

The book kept me reading and turning each page to find out what happens next. Fast paced with action, suspense and romance. With secrets, lies, betrayals, murder and family feuds. A great author who kept me wanting for more between the two families. Can't wait to read the other books in this series that's sure to be as great as this book was.

Malavita is a an fantastic read. I love this criminal mafia world that Dana Delamar has created. I always wanted to know more about Enrico's past with his first wife Toni and this prequel did not disappoint. The writing is superb, fast paced, with lot's of action. You'll be taken back to Enrico's youth where he learns as young man what being part of the mafia family really means... having true honor, seeking revenge for your family, learning to trust & taking a chance on falling in love...with the enemies daughter. Enrico & Toni's story pulled me right in from the beginning and I was entertained & engaged right to the end. I recommend the Blood & Honor series as a must read! Job well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing romantic suspense by a very gifted writer! May 30 2014

I was excited to dig my teeth into Malavita. It’s romantic suspense, right up my alley. I’m always a bit nervous when I first start a new book. I’m often let down by mediocre writing right off the bat, so it was pleasantly surprising when I dug into Malavita. Dana Delamar has obviously learned her craft well. Her writing is crisp and descriptive without being overly dramatic.

Her main characters, Rico and Toni, were well-developed, though their dialogue felt a bit stiff at times, and, to me, didn't ring true to their ages—they felt much older—but they were likable and I cheered their romance on. I will say, being that Rico was more or less trapped into an arranged marriage with Toni, and his first impression of her was not all that flattering, that it seemed a bit unrealistic that Rico would fall in love as quickly as he did, especially given his history and those he left behind in London, but he’s young, so I went with it. I just would've preferred it to develop a bit more over time. Toni had always had thing for the dashing Rico, so her infatuation was entirely believable.

Malavita is much more romance than suspense. The affair between Rico and Toni is set within the background of two warring Italian organized crime families. Personally, I would have loved to see this part of the story more up front rather than running in the background. It would have benefited from being more developed. I think the details of the feud were the one part of the plot I had a bit of an issue with. There just wasn't enough detail there for me to feel truly vested, and it was resolved way too easily and quickly, but, from what I understand, it all comes back in later books in the series. My hope is that the author further develops and explains all the history and bad blood lurking there.

All in all, I really enjoyed Malavita. These days, with free time so scarce, it’s a major miracle if I finish any book, so it speaks volumes that Malavita kept my interest so intently. Delmar’s writing is wonderful, easy to read and follow, and she’s gifted with the ability to set a beautiful scene without over doing it. Some books that start off strong often weaken, but Malavita never did. And though I prefer suspense over romance, it was the romance that kept me riveted and turning the pages. I wanted to see Rico and Toni through to the end, because I loved them and wanted them to finally be happy. I look forward to seeing where else Delamar takes these characters, their families, and their bloody family feud.
