Lee careens from the hedonistic ebullience of Malcolm's early days to the stark despair of prison, from his life-changing conversion to Islam to his emergence as a dynamic political leader--all with an epic sweep and vitality that illuminates personal details as well as political ideology. ...is the best way to describe Malcolm X, Denzel Washinton's greatest work in cinema so far. It tells the story of Malcolm X, the strong-willed black revolution leader whose ironic and powerful views differed very differently from Martin Luther Jr.Denzel Washington gives an extraordinary performance, and with heart he shows the metamorphosis of Malcolm X, from hip young kid, to his life of crime days, to when he was a white-hating civil rights leader. There are many other great performances in the film, and Spike Lee makes Malcolm X his best "joint" ever. You can feel that this is a Spike lee film, because it is a little strange and it swings from one mood to another. Spike lee also stars in the film, but as a minor character. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Malcolm X, and it ranks as one of the best film of the '90s. If you love Denzel Washington, you haven't seen him perform until you have seen him in Malcolm X.

Regardless of the politics, the life and times of Malcolm Little as portrayed in Malcolm X is a true American story. "Malcolm X" can truthfully be said to be one of Spike Lee's best films, which was an important step for him, perhaps the most important one of his career. This biopic, and Spike's fifth full-length feature, makes only partial sense as a follow-up to his other hits, "Do The Right Thing," "Mo' Better Blues" and "Jungle Fever,' the three films in which he created and developed his unique voice and made a name for himself as one of the most prominent independent filmmakers in the US; Spike's own voice can barely be heard in Malcolm X, and his usually immediately recognizable trademarks are tough to point out.The reason is that for the first time in his career Spike Lee took a step back, and he is not the dominant personality in the film; the dominant personality is Malcolm X himself, and Spike let Malcolm's voice be heard throughout the film louder than anything else. This film was more of a statement than Spike's previous films. Its scope is immensely larger than anything he did before - it does, after all, span 200 minutes gracefully. Spike tackles "Malcolm X" head on the very subjects he treated with symbolism and subtlety in this film, and therefore is a natural and important progression for him. In a biopic, the most important factor is for the director to care about the subject and Mr. Lee clearly proves that. Malcolm X boasts a huge ensemble casts, with wonderful performances by Delroy Lindo, Angela Bassette, Al Freeman Jr. (in a harrowing performance as Muslim extremist Elijah Muhammad) and Spike Lee himself - but the movie is still entirely Malcolm X's, and therefore Denzel Washington's. Spike's protégé gave a lifetime performance in "Mo' Better Blues" two years earlier, but he surpassed it with his gut-wrenching portrayal of "Malcolm X," which earned him an Oscar nomination and based him as one of the best actors of his generation. Malcolm X is an important film that is impressive, moving, and beautifully film. This film is highly recommended to every culture.

Show business and the film industry is brutally selective, and ethnocentric. It is very important that there are more filmmakers and media artists for marginalized people's voices. To all justice seeking artists, "be systematic, and persistent, and do as much as you can, always." Address the source(s) of any problem. As S.Lee has shown, doing true, good work and earning a comfortable income is very doable. Language is a tool.Aside: In the U.S., only two parties could ever be in presidential office. Unless the odds for the other parties become as good, there would be very little or no change in America's domestic or international conflicts. All that is said by these two candidates before election will always be unreliable ------ this is nothing but a show. Suggestion: *1) Allow only equal campaign funding and methods for all official political parties. All political representatives of each district must daily reside in the area they are representing. All public information(or at least the office phone numbers and the dates or websites for minutes/publications) must be made available beside every national, state, and local newspaper box in the country. 2) *Only the popular vote is valid.* Any complication can only be resolved by a total re-casting. Now, could it be any more fair than that?! Red tape serves only the ruling class, since only they make the rules.
