Product Description

From Amazon.com

This Belgian satire (in French with English subtitles) is dark, dark, dark--but also right on the money in its sly sendup of the media's fascination with violence and its complicity therein. This mock documentary has a trio of filmmakers shooting a cinéma vérité feature about a garrulous serial killer who lets the film crew follow him around as he selects victims and then dispatches them. But at what point does filmmaking become participation? These hapless documentarians soon find out as their subject eventually pulls them into his world, including a gun battle with a rival film crew and their own criminal star. Gruesomely hilarious, with a deadpan wit that's hard to resist. --Marshall Fine

Video Details

Documentary filmmakers André and Rémy have found an ideal subject in Ben. He is witty, sophisticated, intelligent, well liked-and a serial killer. As André and Rémy document Ben's routines, they become increasingly entwined in his vicious program, sacrificing their objectivity and their morality. Controversial winner of the International Critics' Prize at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival, Man Bites Dog stunned audiences worldwide with its unflinching imagery and biting satire of media violence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Graphic, Sep 8 2002
By
This review is from: Man Bites Dog (Widescreen) (DVD)
Yes, the movie is graphic, brutal, uncensored, and more violent than your average hollywood movie. Shot in B/W, and made by a group of Belgian students this beats the Blairwitch project both in realism as well originality, and that years before the Blairwitch. I saw this movie twice at school in Antwerp where it was discussed in morality, and was hooked ever since. If you like this movie, also check out La Haine.

4.0 out of 5 stars almost tooooo real, Oct 31 2011
This review is from: Man Bites Dog (Widescreen) (DVD)
pretty cool crazy movie. Like most movies shot this way it looks so much crazier because it almost looks real. The fact that you know right off the bat thats its ficiton alows you to enjoy it. The main killer just shows no emotion to the death he deals at the drop of a hat. no one is safe. often he even looks at the camera while hes killing someone and talks about it and explains what is going on. this is very effective and quite disturbing, id like to go into it more but i dont want to spoil anything. Nothing really made me laugh out loud but the whole vibe to everything is almost humorous, if it werent so brutal, and i mean brutal. There are many raunchy scenes including rape and violence towards children but this movie feels so origonal and memorable that overall it is a recommendable flick.
