My sons are late 20s and live on their own. They want to cook, but don't know how.
A person who knows how to cook would not care for this book.
But a person who is new at cooking, I believe, would really like it.
Not just men, but young women as well.
A complete casserole type meal can be made, usually with 3 - 4 ingredients.
The food is quite edible...just not that fancy.
A seasoned cook could take the recipes and add a few ingredients and fancy up a casserole.
I read in a review that 1 person lived on a boat and used this book often.
It's perfect for a living situation like that.
It would be good for camping and taking canned ingredients.
I was really happy with this book and am giving it to my sons as a Xmas gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Gourmet, but Pretty Good Anyway Jan 7 2008
Format:Board book
All right, I'll admit it, when I first got this book I wasn't too impressed. It's a board book, not very different than the kind my two-year-old nephew reads. It's full of pictures, again, kind of like what I might find in the board books my nephew reads. Only these are nice color photos of fixings (the ingredients - usually a couple cans of something), plus the finished product. You know, like a can of Bush's BBQ baked beans + a can of Del Monte Mexican-style tomatoes + a can of Del Monte whole kernel corn, then a photo of the finished dish, Fried Bean Tomatoes.

So, who would ever use this book? Bachelors certainly, but not me. Wanna bet! I live half the year on a sailboat and we have lot of cans in our storage lockers. We've tried just about every recipe in this book. Some several times. And that's quite an admission from a girl who used to write a monthly column on how to cook gourmet meals while living aboard a boat.

4.0 out of 5 stars hysterical, great and CAN DO July 12 2004
Format:Board book
when i first saw this book, over a year ago, i thought it was hysterical. now, one year later, i bought the book to help me do research. be forewarned the recipes are geared towards men, but anyone can use this cookbook. it's especially good for bachelors, bachelorettes, college students, or people who don't have a lot of groceries in their pantry and don't know what to do. i for one do not keep a lot of fresh veggies around because they simply go to waste before i can use it for dinner. therefore i have canned veggies. oh, it is cheaper to by it on amazon at $11.+ than at the bookstore. the bookstore came out to $17.+ where as amazon just came in at $15.+

4.0 out of 5 stars A good start to expanding your cooking vocabulary
As a college student without too much time, resources, or experience cooking, I started getting sick of the same old plates of pasta and hamburger helper meals. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty recipes, less-than-ideal layout
My purpose in considering this book was a hunt for recipes that were fairly simple to make, not too unhealthy, and would please four boys of various ages. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars This is barely a cookbook
If you truly have trouble putting the most basic meals together, then this book is fine. But don't expect anything terribly appealing. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars A great idea, though with slightly flawed execution

1.0 out of 5 stars WAY too gimmicky
This book's recipes all focus WAY too much on the gimmick of using canned foods. A much better focus for a book aimed at the reluctant cook would be to pare down classic... Read more
