Excellent programming, awful packaging,
By Anthony N (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Man vs. Wild: Season Four (DVD)
Season 4 of Man vs. Wild contains some of the best episodes Bear has ever put together, however, I was disappointed in the actual DVD package it came it. The front of the case was pretty cool, sporting a holographic Bear sticking out. However, the entire case is made of cardboard, and a small cardboard insert containing the DVD's slides out for access. It's really flimsy, in fact, while I was carrying the case, the insert slipped out, and the discs fell on the floor, luckily with no damage. My suggestion: keep the outer DVD case in which the insert is contained, and toss the silly, unprotective insert. Go to your closest electronics store, and purchase 3 of those super slim cases and store the discs in there, and then store the slim cases in the actual case. This way, your discs will be protected. Otherwise, the show itself is fantastic, one of the best seasons yet.

Bear has definitely kicked up the pace for his new season. Lot's of horrendous situations with devastating results and mishaps that lead to a test of complete endurance. Will Ferrell debuted on a special episode where he and Bear travel through frozen climate and seas of deep snow and rough terrain. The drop-in scenes have gotten more intense as well as the level of skill that it takes to inhabit such inhospitable regions as Viet Nam or just south of Siberia. Bear has the chance to take down big game that could gouge or skewer Grylls with a swipe. As for the bad parts of the season... the case in comes in. Its just a cheap fold up cardboard case with pockets that the DVDs slide into. Not very feasible and doesn't look presentable. Would have paid more for a copy that had a half-way decent case that wasn't 2 inches wider than normal DVDs. A must-have for those who enjoy the wilderly!!

We, as a family, just love Bear. We own seasons 1-4 now. Sometimes there's controversy as to if every single little thing he does is by the book (SAS survival manual), but I think it's great the way he demonstrates and presents skills. I have learned a lot. If anyone is picky about HOW he does things, they need to watch the series along with reading the manual for accuracy. He is a wonderful presenter and I love his spirit. He counts to three and goes on 2. That says something about his character. It's an exciting show that gets us excited about backpacking as a family. Some things we have read about in the manual are really great to see someone actually doing it. I also love seeing and learning about different places around the globe. I'm amazed at his ingenuity and enthusiasm. After watching 3 seasons, I'm surprised how many different things there are in season 4... it is still very interesting. I'd like to see critics do a small fraction of what Bear does. If anything, it's a fun show. Keep it up Bear! Highly recommended! 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful

The most exciting season!,

Season 4 of Man vs Wild is I feel, the BEST season and also most exciting! It is like all the other MvW seasons, but combined with lots of crazy stunts! VERY exciting this season! The locations are all dramatic and classic. The episode with Will Ferrel is one you can watch over and over! I own all the other seasons that have been released on DVD, and they are all great in different ways, season 5 being the weakest, and I feel season 4 is definitely worth owning! Great season!
