As far as textbooks go, this one is pretty good. It is well written and clear at explaining all concepts without either dumbing the subject down, or overexplaining complex issues. The chapters are a good length, making each one a manageable chunk of information. The supplementary site materials are quite helpful with terminology flashcards and quizzes. For students - anything that is diagrammmed or in a chart is likely to be on the exam.
Where it drops the ball is on end of chapter exercises. Our university course picked the course assignments out of end of chapter exercises, and they were far too complex for the actual textbook material. Many assignments require a working knowledge of access, databases, query languages, etc. and there is insufficient tutorials provided to work with the software easily. Most students relied on third party sources to finish the assignments, and even then they're far too challenging and removed from the actual textbook material.
