I just received my PROlite mat (it arrived one day early!) and I used it during my Bikram yoga practice yesterday. I just love it!
After taking it out of the box, it did have a bit rubber smell. I just hang it out for a day and during my yoga session, the smell was almost all gone.
I notice the support it gave my back and my tree pose was definitely more steady too. I place a microfiber towel over top while I practice.
You can't get a better price elsewhere...I checked.

This mat is thick and sticky without feeling too heavy or too much like a synthetic plastic. The cloth-like finish on the top side of the mat is a great texture. It doesn't hurt my hands when I press into it while doing planks like other mats or a terry-cloth towel might. The bottom of the mat also has a unique texture that minimizes slippage. I practised for a year on a super-thin, no-cushion mat just to avoid practising on the floor and then I made the switch to this mat. This is super comfortable mat. I recommend it to everyone in my yoga classes. I practise often at a room-temperature ashtanga studio but I've also used the mat (with and without a towel) at hot yoga studios. If the studio is too hot then I sweat too much and drip all over the mat, requiring a towel to mop it up. One of the benefits of the mat is that it doesn't absorb sweat, but the downside is that the surface becomes slippery in that case. I suggest bringing a small towel to mop up excess sweat from the mat during really hot yoga classes but it's not necessary if you don't drip and make puddles with your sweat.

I carry this mat around a lot, from home to the studio to work and school. I don't drive and it is still not that heavy or bulky. It is not too heavy for plane travel, and is a good compromise between super-thick and portable. I think the Manduka Black/Pro mat would have been too heavy for me I'm glad that I got this one. I think it's the perfect thickness for most yoga practitioners. I do not need to fold my mat over to support my knees, even if I press a bit more into the knee cap bones than I should in some poses. The mat is think enough to fully cushion my knees. I recently brought this mat on a transcontinental flight and I didn't feel that it was too heavy to transport.

This is the light version of the Manduka BlackMatPRO -- same firmness, yet consideribly lighter. I wouldn't want to lug around the Black Mat, but this one is okay to carry around to work and then to the studio. These mats are very firm, so don't expect any of the rubbery cushiness that, for example, Jade mats are famous for. I have been moving towards firmer mats, as my practice develops, but would still highly recommend Jade mats for beginning yogis. Plus, those come in lots more fun colors ;)
Grip is good, although I am still sliding a bit when my hands get sweaty -- I am hoping this will get better as the material gets some wear. It is definitely very solid feeling material, and I would expect this mat to last a very long time. These mats actually have a designated top and bottom side, which are easily distinguishable by the material's nobbing. I haven't felt compelled yet to use it the "wrong" way around, but don't expect that to be really different. One reason why it does help to commit to one side, though: the material is a bit stiff, so the ends will curl up after unrolling the mat. If you roll it with the bottom of the mat towards the inside (i.e. exactly the other way than how you would do it, if you are rolling up a mat that's lying on the floor), that won't be an issue.
The label says there is no rubber in this mat, and the production process is environmentally friendly, yet I still sensed a very strong rubbery smell when I first unpacked the mat. I aired it out for about an hour before first use, and it was still smelling quite a bit. However, this disappeared soon after. According to the label, the mat is made in Germany.
All in all I am very happy with this purchase and am looking forward to years of use.

Beginner to ashtanga yoga, practice 3 times a week.

Love it! Infinitely better than my cheap drugstore yoga mat. Smelled a little at first, but after a few weeks of breaking it in it neither smells nor slips. Not too heavy, great if you tote it to and from the studio.

Since Manduka got mass produced these mats are not what they were used to. I bought one since the teacher mat in the studio I teach was such a great mat. It turned out to be an older and way better version. Now after two years it still slips. Many of my yoga buddies with the same mat have moved on to Jade after Manduka gave them the same problems.

Excellent quality mats. However it will slip a bit if you sweat. Consider getting yoga gloves for better grip. Don't give up on this mat just because it is a bit slippery times. Great quality and because it is closed cell mat (which will prevent any bacteria growth and will last much longer than fabric like open cell mats) sweat does not get observed by mat. That is not bad for health reasons.

I have the black pro one and I bought the Prolite mat to travel with because the black pro is too heavy and I like to use my black mat at home. This one is great. It is thicker than common mats, holds its structure, and does not bunch around when you are using it on carpet, wood floor, and concrete. I am not sure about grass because I bought it around winter time, but I assume it would be fine on grass as well.

I will say it is a little slippery when you first buy it because of the film, but it does wear off just like my mat pro did.

If you do sweat a lot, make sure you get a yoga mat towel. I don't do a lot of hot yoga, I sweat a bit, but not enough to be slippery. My boyfriend used my mat and he gets sweaty a lot and he informed that it did grip enough, but some poses he was slipping a tad. So if you are going to use this for hot yoga get a yoga towel to place on top.
