This review is from: My Many Colored Days (Hardcover)
My little guy was diagnosed with autism at 22 months and I thought this book would go a long way to explain emotions and feelings, as that tends to be a hard thing to understand for people with this disorder. This is the very first book that he read to me in its entirety when he was not quite 4 and was just learning to speak. I often give this book as baby gifts and have given it as gifts to my son's teachers for their classrooms. It is most definitely a must-have for kids of all ages and abilities. The watercolour-type illustrations are beautiful, and not at all what we are used to with Dr. Seuss. My son will be 9 (yikes!) next month, and I still make him read it to me from time to time (although we both can pretty much recite it by memory). Truly my all-time favourite book! Thank you, Dr. Seuss!

There are better books about colors...,

I purchased this book for "my" children because of our many positive experiences with Dr Seuss books in the past. However, when it came to the color, black, it was disheartening to see such a negative association with a word many young children identify with. It is frustrating enough that many people already consider "white good and black bad" but having someone like Dr Seuss reinforce it by linking black with rage was dis appointing. A much better alternative: My Crayons Talk, by Hubbard. Though Hubbard's works are less familiar, the positive connection

Horrible!,
By
This review is from: My Many Colored Days (Board book)
I can't believe the positive reviews this book is getting. I'm all for discussing emotions with a child, but this book goes too far! It confuses sad with manic depressive! It gives permission to be dark, mean, & brooding. My son was given this book by a well-meaning relative, but after only a few readings, my husband and I have decided to permanently shelve this one. We are well educated parents who believe in being honest with our child, but this book contains subject matter that is inappropriate for any child.
