These books , though hard to find, are truly excellent. The main character is an incest survivor who escapes from an abusive family and goes on to adventures and fighting evil. Ms. Tepper is able to use fantastic places and beings to bring us to a better understanding of everyday evils and heroes in our real world.

It is a fairy tale and a fantasy and a study of people. It is dreamy and funny and courageous. The dream worlds are amazing - I love the grass dog - and the story is fantastic, but absolutely believable. I haven't read anything else quite like it.
