This is one of the fastest moving, kick-ass action novels I've read in a long time. Blows the rest of 'em out of the water. Can't wait to read the next book in the series. Alexander knows how to build momentum in a story and keep the pace moving. I also like that he doesn't pull any punches or try to bog the reader down with emotional asides and other junk that comes out phony, detracts from the real purpose of the book and slows it down. What you get is driving action that does not let up, set against the backdrop of wholly realistic political and military maneuverings in Washington and other world capitals. Alexander shows us fly-on-the-wall glimpses inside the Oval Office and Pentagon that seems as accurate a description of the dynamics of the U.S. defense establishment as the impressive array of facts, figures and word-pictures of ships, planes and troops in combat situations across a broad range of operational scenarios that he seems to just pull out of the air. If you want an exciting and entertaining reading experience I suggest you grab hold of a copy of this book.

The author totally ignores characterization, with the exception of the "bad guy" - Evangelista. To say that the other characters are cardboard personalities would be giving the author more credit than he deserves.
The worst part of the book is that it is a "set-up"; by that I mean the author introduces several threads of story lines, but never brings any of them to a conclusion. You are supposed to buy the remaining books in the series to find out how the stories end! No where on the cover, introduction, or back cover, is it stated, (or even alluded to) that by purchasing this book all you are getting is the barest of introduction to multiple plots, but never the resolution of any of them.
