What a wonderful book and a real treat as every turn of the page leads the reader to more beautiful photographs and interesting text on Marrakesh. Montague does a wonderful job capturing the magic of Morocco and her amazing home Peacock Pavilion. Also inspiring are the beautiful borders, the detailed graphics and collages reminiscent of stunning inspiration boards. This books takes you on a enjoyable design adventure and inspires you to not only add some magic to your home but to dream about faraway lands and how they can ignite our creativity. This book is great for anyone who enjoys fabulous interior photographs, DYI projects and travel - it has it all! Pour some mint tea and enjoy the journey.

The pictures and colours are beautiful. I guess I was expecting more useful around-the-house hints, so I was a little disappointed.

Marrakesh by Design is a true delight to browse through again and again. The content is vast, complete and very informative, not to mention the stunning pictures. Maryam takes you on a journey through Marrakesh, to sublime villas, exotic riads, and her very own majestic Peacock Pavillions. With her do-it-yourself projects, your creative juices are sure to be flowing. If you've travelled to the Peacock Pavillions or follow Maryam's blog : MyMarrakesh, you know Maryam is a creative designer, a shopping guru and an expert on Morocco and Moroccan design. Marrakesh by Design provides readers with much of that insight. I enjoy browsing through my copy over and over again. The colours, the patterns, the textures... Sigh... if only we were all blessed with Maryam's eye and talent!

Beautiful Book! May 4 2012
By George C. Tong - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Marrakesh by Design is a stylish and infomative book with some stunning pictures. I read it from cover to cover since it arrived yesterday. Unlike other design books, this one is actually a useful addition to our library. Of course it looks beautiful on the coffee table too!

I particularly like part III of the book on sourcing, which catalogues the very best of Moroccan products. We are not talking about mass produced souvenirs, but rather individually hand crafted collectables with the artisanal skills that are disappearing quickly theses days.

I highly recommend this book only to those with discerning taste, and to those who love to live surrounded by beauty!

Timeless design from Morocco May 8 2012
By Jamil Idun Ogde - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Timeless is a great way to describe the style of Marrakesh and all the designs that the author presents in this book. The very impressive design versatility from Morocco is apparent on every page.

The photography is truly amazing. The work thoroughly researched and beautifully presented with flavors of Moroccan architecture, beauty, culture and design. A wealth of how-to ideas for interior design and architecture also make this book very practical.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in Moroccan design. Maryam Montague's work is truly inspirational.

It's a book on "how to" categories and not much more! May 14 2012
By B. Olson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This book is NOT for the serious traveler, or anyone really interested in design.
It is geared to the person who has never left home but wants to appear to have seen the world. It includes many "how to" categories such as How to stencil a floor, How to make a coffee table from a window, How to dye a concrete floor, How to make mint tea, and more. It is all superficial and has very little to do with Morocco. You'll understand more about Morocco from reading a travel guide.

As a registered architect, I have traveled to Morocco a few times. This book "Marrakesh by Design" gives the reader very little flavor of the TRUE Morocco. I would recommend the two Thames and Hudson publications - Morocco Modern, and Living in Morocco, which are a much better choice for understanding the culture and the visuals. If you want to learn how to make mint tea ... read a book on making tea, and not this one. Please note that I do NOT work for or represent any book publisher.

Fabulous Book! Sept. 11 2012
By TaRa - Published on Amazon.com

I just finished Maryam Montague's book 'Marrakesh By Design'. I am totally in love with this style, vivid colors, display of patterns and colors. My friend turned me onto it. I think next year we are creating a group to travel together and stay at least one night at the Peacock Pavillions in Marrakesh. Meanwhile I already had many lanterns but obtaining more. When my sofa wears out I'm going to create and design a banquette-like couch. And, I am searching the web for collecting poufs. I just purchased a hand made etched tagine from Ten Thousand Villages. It is hand formed by women potters of Lombok, Indonesia. I also purchased my first Moroccan cook book. Cooking a recipe for the first time this evening. After seasoning my tagine. I'm addicted! Thank you!

SO much more than design! May 6 2012
By R. Yates - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
"Understanding Morocco's history and culture is essential to finding the answer to Morocco's design equation." The author truly gives enough of a taste of Morocco's history and culture that the book's elements of design take on a whole new richness and depth. Marrakesh by Design is a so much more than just design ideas.

The "how-to" pages are creative, inspiring and fun projects to try. The "bring-it-home" tips are practical ideas to incorporate Moroccan style elements in an existing situation (no need to wait until I have the time-or money-to do a complete renovation). The purchasing tips and supplier resources are invaluable! The photo's are a feast for the eyes!

Whether you are a seasoned decorator, a decorator wannabe or a travel enthusiast...this is an excellent and enjoyable resource.
