"Meghan is a gem. Her sass toward FBI Agent Mast melts into humility and progresses into solid friendship, and is a joy to follow. Her zest for life kept the pages turning." -Terri Wangard "I just read A Marriage for Meghan by Mary Ellis and I enjoyed it very much." -Patricia Jacobs "I have always loved a good mystery that keeps you guessing with twists and turns. And, I also love learning about the Amish and all things Amish. Who could have imagined a book that has both! I loved it. I really couldn't put in down until I was finished. I just had to know how the story would end. It is no wonder that Mary Ellis continues to be my favorite author." -Donna Taylor "A Marriage for Meghan was a non-stop read for me. I enjoyed Meghan's spirit." -April S. Barnett

Her father finally agrees to let Meghan have the job of assistant teacher if her sister takes the main teaching position. Meghan is thrilled. But then a string of hate crimes against the Amish occur. Her brothers are beaten, the school is vandalized, fences cut, and crops destroyed. Since the local police believe that the Amish are targeted, they call in the FBI to investigate.
Thomas Mast is sent to do the work in Amish country. As the low man in the FBI totem pole he gets the jobs no one else wants. But the Amish refuse to press charges, and with little to nothing to go on, Thomas doesn't know how he can solve this mystery. Meanwhile, the hate crimes continue, getting more vicious and hateful each time. Will Thomas find the guilty party? Will Meghan prove her worth as a teacher?
A MARRIAGE FOR MEGHAN is the second book in Mary Ellis' The Wayne County Series set in Ohio. Meghan is a teenager, active, and impulsive, and anxious to find her own way, even hurting those who get in her way. There are other points of view included in this story - Thomas Mast, who has a secret of his own; The bishop's, who is making some controversial decisions; Meghan's sister, Catherine, who is the new head teacher and had to leave her beau to do so...
A MARRIAGE FOR MEGHAN is a great read. It does start out a little slow but it quickly picks up. I couldn't put this book down. The ending isn't all neatly tied up, so I think Meghan's story will probably be continued as a secondary character in the third book of this series. Fans of Amish fiction won't want to miss A MARRIAGE FOR MEGHAN. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book.
If you love a good amish mystery and love story you will love this book as I did. You will also love the way Megan and Jacob get along, or maybe not get along
I stayed up until after midnight to read this book and I am up every morning by 4:30AM but I didn't care because the book is sooooooooo good
When Thomas Mast comes to town to investigate the crimes against the Amish, he becomes her family's boarder. Meghan finds in him a friend she can talk to about Jacob, the family she feels treats her like a child, and her dreams of learning to teach. But Meghan's father, Gideon, suspects something more serious than friendship is growing between Meghan and Thomas and objects to their relationship. At last, Meghan must give up games when she realizes Jacob may be looking elsewhere for a wife.
Mary Ellis's beautifully structured Amish novels have earned her a loyal readership and A Marriage for Meghan should satisfy both her long-time readers and new fans. The book provides a glimpse of a fascinating culture as well as a story whose themes cross cultural lines. Most women have experienced the pull between love of family and love of a particular type of work and they will be able to empathize with Meghan's earnest struggle to balance the two sides of her life. We see familiar characters from previous books--the beleaguered but faithful bishop, Gideon Yost, his devoted fraa Ruth, and their sensible daughter Catherine. The real suspense involved in discovering both the people and the reason for the anti-Amish crimes is a new twist for Ms. Ellis's books. I enjoyed trying to find the answers alongside the appealing FBI Agent Thomas Mast. I'm pleased to recommend A Marriage for Meghan, the newest addition to Mary Ellis's fine novels.
