Shauna Sever is the voice of the popular blog Piece of Cake and is a host and reporter for food-related television. She also runs Bake Sale Bakery, a dessert catering business in San Francisco, where she lives with her husband and daughter.

I first found out about this book on chow.com and it seemed easy enough (and interesting enough) to give it a try. After making the vanilla marshmallows off of the recipe on the chow site, I was beyond amazed and impressed! The marshmallows were fluffy, soft and perfect! I bought the book shortly after to try out some other recipes. I've tried the classic vanilla, buttered rum and salted caramel swirl recipes and they are all outstanding. I have been trying to convince others to give marshmallow making a try because it's very quick, super easy and you will amaze yourself with how the ingredients come together. The book is very well laid out. The ingredients are laid out according to the portion of the recipe they belong to. All of the directions are very clear and there is no guessing involved. (As a side note: a friend tried to make these without a mixer and it was a disgusting disaster. Don't know why anyone would try this without a stand mixer, but if yours didn't turn out, it's probably because they weren't whipped enough). This book was worth it for the fun and novelty!

I ordered this little book in the summer and have since made 4 of different types of marshmallows. Having never made marshmallows before, I threw caution to the wind and made one of the most complicated recipes in the book as my first attempt, the Maple Bacon Marshmallows. Awesome! The other recipes I tried were equally as wonderful.

The author explicitly states which brands of ingredients she recommends, the exact temperatures required, which mixer setting to use and for how long. Above all, the book charms readers with its squishy covers, beautiful and vibrant photos and witty, sweet writing. The recipes range from classic vanilla to concord grape to creative combos like maple bacon. The book also includes a section of desserts that utilize marshmallows as a component just in case you're not into eating an entire pan!
