Comment: MASH: THE MARTINIS & MEDICINE COLLECTION (36 DVD Boxed Set!) (in really cool packaging) NOTE: There are some "slots" that hold the DVDs that have slight tears, and have been taped (See photos). This came in really cool eco-friendly packaging, but the "paper lined" DVD holders are very thin, and have torn at a few of the edges, and have been taped to secure it. The packaging still looks great on the outside. Includes all 11 seasons, the academy award winning Robert Altman film, the 3-part final episode (Goodbye, Farewell, Amen) and loads of bonus features. Bonus features include: "MASH: Television's Serious Sitcom" (feature documentary from the Biography Channel), "Mash 30th Anniversary Reunion" documentary, "Memories of MASH" documentary, "Blooper Reel", "MASH Promo Spots", "Cast interviews & clips from the last days of filming", "Public Service Announcements from the cast"< "Unproduced episode script: Hawkeye on the Double", "Jucularity compilation featurette", "Fan Base Featurette", "Just the FAQs interactive trivia game" and much more!. Incredible boxed set in really cool packaging. Original "Region 1" DVD Release by FOX (USA/Canada Edition) We have this in stock (here in Toronto) and ready to ship!

I had been purchasing individual seasons like many people, but I wanted the extra features (bloopers etc) that were included in the martinis and medicine collection. There was no indication that these features would be available in any other form. Unfortunately, they finally produced a dvd collection that has the extras on it and the final episode. I believe the dvd is called Mash: Goodbye, Farewell and Amen. I do not see this listed on the canadian Amazon, but it is however available on This might be a better alternative for someone who has already been collecting the series individually.
There were a few problems with the collection. I also had a scratched dvd, so there are a few episodes that won't play for me. With so many dvds in the set, I guess they didn't care too much about quality. Also the dvds themselves are held in cardboard slots and they often fall through and out the bottom of the set.

Those who enjoy MASH will love this boxed set. The series is a definite 5-star product. However, as mentioned by many reviewers below, the set still is hampered by low manufacturing value. The paper sleeve holders appear to have a tendancy to scratch the discs. A few of the discs were lightly scratched but still readable. My Season 8 Disc 1 had a deep scratch that rendered three of the episodes unreadable. Any attempt to contact Fox for replacement failed (actually, ignored). So here's the fix: grab a dab of non-gel toothpaste on tip of finger, rub a couple times from edge to center (not circular), rinse under tap, and dry with lint free towel (again, edge to center). Scratch is micro-abrasioned/polished away and disc plays. If this is your first time trying this, practice on a CD/DVD you no longer want.

Like many other reviews that I read before finally deciding to take the plunge and buy this set, I love the series but... The packaging leaves a lot to be desired! While it is on first glance a unique manner in which to package the set, it is functionally lacking. Many of the discs were scratched and I checked each one upon receiving the set, not leaving it until Christmas day because too many reviewers complained that after slowly going through the discs, the "warranty" expired before it was discovered that a disc was either deficient or not functional. Why didn't Fox use a different method of holding the discs that wouldn't scratch them in transit and every time one was used? At the suggestion of one reviewer I bought a bunch(36 to be exact) of empty jewel cases and our set now resides in them instead of the really cool package that they came in. I'm glad I bought the set, because it is a lot of fun and well worth the money, the only caveat is the case. Be careful.

I love this collection; I think MASH is one of the best shows that has ever been broadcast, and the box set itself is wonderfully laid out.

However, the second disc of season two does not work (is not scratched, and has never played for me in any player), and I cannot find anyone - where I bought it, or at Fox - that is willing to do something about this. Customer support is non-existent, and for a collection of this size and value I would have thought someone could have helped me out. I was very excited when I got this collection, but now I am disappointed with it.

Several discs from this collection came damaged and are not playable. Worst of all is that I cannot even return this because of the 30 day policy, which is ridiculous when you buy such a large DVD set. Thanks a lot Amazon. To everyone that considers getting this DVD set: DO NOT BUY IT!

P.S. This product would've been priceless if I could actually play it.

M*A*S*H: Martinis & Medicine Collection is an absolute treasure. Without a doubt it is a five-star plus goldmine. It's authentic and draws you into each episode as if you were part of the action. Viewers personally relate to the characters as they are masterfully acted out. The series packs just about every emotion one experiences in real life. The power of the series is that it flawlessly takes a serious situation and positions it without the hate and violence inherent in any WAR setting. In that sense it is a series relevant for all times. For those who have been there, war is another world, and M*A*S*H takes you to that place with meticulous care and sensitivity. The M*A*S*H series does not glorify war. It effectively shows how a collection of different characters are forced to come together (in very tough circumstances) and try to live as humanly as possible in very inhumane conditions. Yes, there is plenty of good taste humor. Juxtaposed very well as the primary coping mechanism to deal with the cruelty of War. The true to life acting, script writing, set-design etc. are beyond outstanding. Each character is knitted perfectly together to deliver a great composite view of the many personalities and characters War creates and shapes in its path.

The biggest disappointment in the entire series is FOX. FOX must have forgotten they are in the entertainment business. The quality of the CD's in this series is deplorable. If it was not for Amazon and in particular their 'Super-Star' Customer Care Representative, Destiny, (who helped me through the minefield of getting replacements for seriously damaged CD's) I would have returned the series and been deprived of many hours of pure entertainment enjoyment. To this day, the FOX image still gives me heartburn.
