About the Author

Peter Sanderson is a comics historian and critic, who was Marvel's first official archivist. He is the author of DK's best selling X-Men: The Ultimate Guide and co-author of DK's The Marvel Encyclopedia and Marvel Chronicle. Peter was also one of the main writers of the first four versions of The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe. Matthew Manning has written numerous comics for a variety of publishers, including Marvel and DC. His work has appeared in the pages of The Batman Strikes!, Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century, Justice League Adventures, Spider-Man Unlimited, Looney Tunes, and Marvel Romance Redux. For DK, he has penned Wolverine: Inside the World of the Living Weapon, the updated versions of Spider-Man: The Ultimate Guide and Hulk: The Incredible Guide, the children's reader Marvel Heroes: Greatest Battles, and contributed to Marvel Chronicle. Manning currently resides in Brooklyn with his wife Dorothy, and a collection of comics much too large for any normal-size apartment. --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift!, Dec 30 2009

This review is from: Marvel Chronicle (Hardcover)
I got this for my brother and, when I was looking through it while wrapping it, I was seriously tempted to just give it to myself. I also think it would make for a great coffee table book if you like to show off your love of Marvel comics to like-minded friends. It's got a fantastic look and layout! It's even got a fairly comprehensive index! Within 24 hours of unwrapping it, my brother was already taking pleasure in pointing out interesting facts that he'd discovered in the book. It's also fairly recent, covering most of the important Marvel events in 2008 and prior, only missing the very end of 2008, when it was published. That meant there was only a year of events missing when I gave this as a gift for Christmas, 2009. The quick skimming and select reading that I did do of the book suggested it was giving a fair treatment, showing all of Marvel's successes and failures over the years, though it seemed to gloss over any of the unpopular things that happened in the recent years since Joey Q. took over.
