3.0 out of 5 stars Just ok Nov. 13 2011
I did expect the case to feel a bit better quality for the price. Does fit very well and do the job though. I did end up cutting off the plastic front cover as that was very cheap feeling and so now use an apple cover and the back part of this. Works well now.

I was very happy with this item, there are many ipad cases that tend to be pretty bulky, however this case is very slick and versatile. I would strongly recomend this product to others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does as advertised, with a few caveats May 25 2011
By Mark S. Turvin - Published on
I bought this for my iPad 2 immediately after purchasing it, but after an exhaustive search through all of my options. I am very happy with my purchase. There are a few caveats:

The smartcover magnets are weak, but work as advertised. It needs a little push down after sitting on my desk as a holder all day, but will snap into place and put the iPad into sleep mode.

The material is very sturdy, and has already saved the iPad from a few tumbles. The method it takes to snapping it in place to protect the back cover is great, because it does not cover anything more than a small part of the metal surface visible from the front. Very unobtrusive. However, the material at the three joints of the front cover cover is already wrinkling after a month through my constant use of it as a stand during work hours, and I worry about the long term effects. I'll add more as things develop. Also, the material is nice and feels like rubber, which makes it easy to grip, but oily hands lead to stains. Be aware.

Finally, a caveat for those (like me) who are doubly-obsessed with the safety of the iPad, and have added invisibleShield to the product. I put it on the front and back, and the result is that the already tight fit of this product made it impossible to snap all four corners into the case. I have it snapped into three, and it's partially snapped into the fourth. It has never come off of the iPad, and it does not affect the magnets latching. Just be aware that it is a VERY tight fit, and is hampered from snapping all four corner into it by the invisibleShield.

4.0 out of 5 stars Marware Microshell Folio for Ipad 2 Video Review June 1 2011

Here is a video review of the Marware Microshell case for the Ipad 2. The case material is suprisingly thin(as I point out in the video) but in the months that I have been using the Marware, I have come to better appreciate the the way the shell becomes almost like a second skin for the Ipad. It feels nice to the touch and provides a fair amount of protection. Of all the Ipad cases I own, the Marware gets the most use and is easily my favorite. The price has also substantially dropped since I uploaded the video review, making the Marware a great value for the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not enough protection Sept. 6 2011
By Mark Feinberg - Published on

I had 4 key criteria for the cover I wanted and meeting them proved to be more difficult than I thought. In order, I wanted:
1) Protection - from drops, scratches, etc
2) Thin and Light - the whole purpose of the iPad is portability. I didn't want something heavy or bulky
3) Functionality - Has Smart Cover functionality and has the ability to act as a stand for viewing and a pad for typing
4) Appearance - mainly color and texture

After spending hours searching through Amazon, reading reviews and going to brick & mortar stores, I finally landed on this case. I ended up returning up and purchasing the Colorspill2. I also considered the Apple Smart Cover with a separate piece to protect that back, but that was going to run at least $55, so I figured I'd give this cover a shot first. Here's what I think for each of my criteria points:

1. Protection - this is where the MarWare felt to me like it fell short. As the video reviewer stated, it just doesn't feel like it would offer the protection necessary if I dropped my iPad, even from a foot or two. Now, it might be well engineered and would offer the protection, but without some proven claims by the company, I just didn't feel comfortable with this cover. Plus, the cover didn't stay closed AT ALL. The Apple Smart Cover (ASC) stays closed when you move the iPad around. The Marware cover just flopped off, reducing protection.
2. Thin and light - Here is where all the leather (and pleather) cases that would fit the other three criteria didn't seem to measure up - by definition leather is pretty thick if it is going to protect well. This seemed to be one of the hardest criteria to fulfill and still be protective. This case is SUPER thin and light. If it offered more protection or Marware made some kind of guarantee, I would have kept it.
3. Functionality - Smart Cover functionality works well. Although cover does flop away if ipad is turned upside down, turning it on. Works well as a stand, and even has a setting for angled typing, where the ipad is almost flat, but the top is elevated a little bit to facilitate typing
4. Appearance - Looks great. Very professional color. Super thin and sleek.

I really wanted to like this cover and keep it, but I just wasn't confident in the level of protection offered. If I felt better about that and the cover were stayed on better, this is easily a 5 star case that I would have kept and raved about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect if you want an update of the OG iPad Case Jan. 27 2012
By SCJaredJ - Published on
I really loved the Original Apple iPad 1 Case (CASE-ZML MC361ZM/B) -Sealed Apple Retail Packaging, so when I got an iPad 2, I was hoping to find something similar to that. The Marware MicroShell Folio builds on that original Apple design and serves as a great case for the iPad 2.

This folio provides great protection while not sacrificing the iPad 2's sleek design. Sure, it adds some bulk, but only just enough to add protection. The MicroShell back covering fits very firmly onto the iPad. In fact, it's such a tight fit that you might feel like you're about to break the case when you're trying to put it in. Getting it back out of the case can be equally frustrating, so if you're going to be moving your iPad from case to case, this Folio is probably not for you. That being said, you won't have to worry about it slipping out!

The tight fit of the shell provides easy access to all of the buttons and ports you need access to. I didn't run into any issue plugging in a charger or set of headphones, and the power and volume buttons are easily accessible.

The folio's lid is designed to mimic the iPad 2 smart cover via its included magnets (to put the iPad 2 to sleep when closed) and tri-fold design (to serve as a stand). I found the lid a bit difficult to use as a stand in all of the suggested configurations as I could never quite get it to stay folded up.

Overall, I think this is a great case. If you miss the functionality of the OG iPad case, this is perfect.

This product is what I was looking for. It isn't JUST a cover,it protects the back of the iPad2 as well as the front. HOWEVER, it's weak point is trying to get the cover to function as a stand. It just fails to do that.
