First of all, I have to admit I have yet to try my hand at any recipes. Let me say, though, that there are beautiful color pictures and delicious sounding recipes that appear to be of a medium to hard difficulty. Any accomplished baker would likely achieve delicious results. Unappealing is the fact that all recipes are measured in ounces being that the author and book are both British, which either require a scale, which not every home baker might own, or neccesitating conversion of weights to what is commonly used in the United States. All in all, I love any kind of baking book, so I'm still extremely happy to add this book to my collection.

The items I have baked from this book have always turned out well. I have made both brownie recipes several times and they are absolutely delicious. The fairy cakes have also been made many times and have always been really fantastic. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Highly recommended.

I first came across this book when a young British Doctor came to work at our hospital. After much indepth reading of this book, I just had to have a copy for myself.

What I like about this book is that it covers a vast range of "Baking" from Muffins, Teabreads, Gingerbreads, Cakes & Cake Decorating (the basics), Cheesecakes, Roulades, Biscuits and many more. This book also has Questions & Answers at the back of each section, so if for some reason you baking hasn't turned out as expected, you can look up what went wrong at back of that particular section.

This book has fantastic pictures and some great sketches for methods ie; how to pipe meringues etc. From my extensive cookbook library, this book is truly one of my most treasured cookbooks for, which I refer to frequently.

I believe that this book is well worth the money (Well worth what it cost to ship it to Australia.....) Honestly, you will not regret your purchase. Enjoy and happy baking.

Bought this for a friend's birthday - it has long be our bible for cakes for birthdays, school baking and generally when it would be nice to have a cake around. Which is most of the time It covers loads of styles and the recipes work.

This book was first lent to me and now after a few weeks in my possession, I've realized I can't let it go. Of course I'm buying it before I Give the original owner back his.

The recipes describe over 200 recipes including Chocolate cakes, Meringues, tray bakes, cheesecakes, scones biscuits and shortbreads and on and on..

In this 2003 edition all measurements are both in British and American units making every recipe accessible to anyone.

This is definitely a MUST BUY baking cookbook.

Mary Berry is a wonderful baker. She is self-assured and exudes confidence without looking down her nose at her readers. Not an easy feat.

One has the feeling that a friend, or Cake Fairy, has entered the kitchen and will guide the baker through all sorts of things which might appear difficult but are in fact quite easily accomplished. Mary Berry should be at the side of every baker. World results would be far better with Mary's wand waving over the ovens.

And she is thoughtful enough to print US and European measurements.
