It has been years since I've heard an album that even comes close to being a new favourite album. This one does.
Fans of the songs from The Guess Who and Burton Cummings will not be disappointed in this release, not at all. The voice is clear and true, no doubt about it. The sound is tight and full, giving the classic hits a bit of a bump, for the better. It is comforting to know what a man and his band can achieve with pure talent and the love of the music.
This is what music should sound like...real. Buy this album, you won't regret it.

First off, this is not the first live CD by the former leader of Canada's The Guess Who. But unlike Up Close & Alone (from the 1990s), this is Burton with a full band - Toronto's Carpet Frogs, who have backed him up for years and were the band when Burton toured & recorded with Randy Bachman.

Burton and the band sound very good in these recordings, selected from two shows (in 2010 and '11) at Toronto's iconic Massey Hall.

But two things occur to me:
1. Why do so many Guess Who songs (all but 4 of the 18 tracks) when they were done brilliantly on the Guess Who's Runnin' Back Through Canada two-disc compilation releasd in 2001? Why so few solo tracks??
2. Why one disc instead of two? There were more songs performed at these two concerts than are present on Massey Hall.

Massey Hall
One of the best-if not the best live cds I have heard in years. Burton Cummings' voice has not lost a thing since the days he either wrote or co-wrote these hits!
There are 18 cuts and every one sounds fresh and varies little from the original recordings done by Mr. Cummings as a solo act or the recordings done by Mr. Cummings during his career as the original lead singer of THE GUESS WHO.
The music is straight forward and straight up rock and roll and it all comes together to compliment the unmistakable voice of Burton Cummings.
I live in the U.S. and received the cd this week. I was not disappointed. I am very glad I pre-ordered.
The pre-orders sold out the day it was released or the next day. I expect the same to happen here in the USA.
The sound on this exceptional--just like he sounds in person. 100% pure and 100% natural--JUST 100% CLASS!

This is a excellent release of a live concert!
His voice is excellent, very powerful. He did NOT include the full version of American Woman....just the same part we have all heard 50 billion times, not the part that he plays piano at the start and works into it...NO IDEA why not :( Big downer for me. Break It To Them Gently is definitely missing on this album...a few like Star Baby and We just came from the U.S.A definitely could have been swapped out for classics. Very reasonably priced, just a few things I would change for sure. It was recorded from 2 seperate nights aswell..one from 2010 I believe and another from 2011.

Burtons voice ages like a fine wine; it just improves over time. Crank this up loud for full effect !! A masterpiece, must have for your collection. All the hits, sung with such rich, pure tones. Starting with the Guess Who's best and continuing on to Burton's solo masterpieces. Nothing like Burtons voice. Order a few copies. The first one will wear out ! A++++

Been a Guess Who/Burton Cummings fan for many, many years.
Loved the reunion 12 years ago and thought that the live recordings from that Canadian tour were outstanding. That said, this newest release by Burton and band is very very good. The quality of the recording is outstanding and Burton's voice comes through loud and clear. These songs sound fresh and inspired. No kareoke here. While Burton may not scream out his lungs on the rockers anymore he has most of his original range and at 65 that is outstanding. He sounds less nasally than on his solo live album from the mid 1990's.This is a strong effort and there are many solo songs here including a couple off his last solo record. The band is first rate and I not only recommend this for fans of Burton and the Guess Who but for other rocks fans who I'm sure will appreciate the CD and have many "aha!!" moments as one familiar song after another comes on.

My one complaint (albit a minor one) is that Burton mentioned recording a live show and DVD of him performing some of the lesser known Guess Who/Burton Cummings classics for release. While that may not sell like this CD has, the old Guess Who/Burton army would treasure it!!!

Great CD!! Keep em coming Burton.

I had the great pleasure of making an enjoyable drive north from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Toronto's Massey Hall to see the first year of Burton's concerts at the venerable venue. Simply put, I am surprised that a roof was still attached to the esteemed edifice for THE MAN'S return the following year. With a voice undiminished by time and nicotine, he roared through the show with total command of his art and his music. I wasn't sure if a simple audio recording could capture the electricity of the night, but this live performance tops most/all artists I have heard memorialized in live recording. The songs are perfect and the sonics are too. If you have a 5.1 surround system, play this disc in "hall" mode and you'll pretty much capture the moment...minus the whole house on their feet swaying and clapping and cheering (and.....that house had a multigenerational crowd in acclaim for BC). This is a must buy album for any rock fan!!!!
