Absolutely magical!, Aug 31 2011

Rob Gonsalves is just brilliant! His fantasy-inspired art (which reminds me a great deal of Magritte) is surreal and beautiful and stunningly magical. I have enjoyed his illustrated calendars for several years now, and the 2012 MASTER OF ILLUSION calendar is equally wonderful.
The calendar includes twelve of Gonsalves paintings, each reproduced beautifully. A few of my favorites found their way into this calendar - "Alpine Navigation" (children launching toy boats), "Spring Skiing" (transformation of winter into spring), "The Performer" (guitarist on the roof of his house), "Ladies of the Lake" (eerie women carrying lanterns), "Autumn Architecture" (woman raking leaves into castle), and "Woodland Arena" (ice skater in the moonlight). Each print is absolutely beautiful enough to frame (and I have framed such calendar prints many times - these make lovely small works of art to hang on your wall or give as gifts).
If you are not familiar with Gonsalves' work, this calendar will make you a fan! I also recommend his illustrated children's books, Imagine a Day (Byron Preiss Book), Imagine a Night, and Imagine a Place. You can totally get lost in Gonsalves' paintings.

I love this calender! Very nice optical illusions and lovely artwork. There's plenty of space to write on the calendar.

Rob Gonsalves is the most spectacular new artists. His concepts are amazing! A more fantastical and innocent MC Escher!..... Simply outstanding!
