I signed up for the Microsoft Virtualization Challenge near the end of 2011. As a result I got a free exam voucher for 70-659 and decided to tackle the challenge. Unfortunately, MS Press was unprepared to help as no official study materials were available. I took to the internet to see what others were doing and almost the entire community pointed me to this book. It did not disappoint. I previously studied for my 70-290 exam with the MS press book, and this was a far cry from the bland text book they provided. Mastering Microsoft Virtualization provided me with real insight on virtualization and covers topics that aren't on the exam but I feel really assist me in preparing for the other Virtualization exams as well as my career goals. The author did a great job at ensuring that you can understand the topic in real-world situations. Difficult concepts were explained in plain english then reinforced with real-world examples. During my studying I also "attended" a microsoft jump-start, and in all honesty I wasted my money doing so; This book had already prepared me for the exam and I passed it with flying colours. I'll be looking to sybex for more in the future without a doubt.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Covering of App-V + MED-V May 2 2010
By Yuval Sinay - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Hi All,

After reading the book Mastering Microsoft Virtualization, I found out that book provides a good cover for topics on App-V + MED-V. However, the Hyper-V, Remote Desktop Services etc. doesn't cover all the required information (e.g. SAN setup for Hyper-V, Remote Desktop Services Gateway, load balance solutions of a full farm, session broker high availability step by step guide, missing of Visio diagrams with servers IP's etc.).

5.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for IT Professionals Dec 17 2009
By Nelson T. Floyd - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Mastering Microsoft Virtualization is a complete "how to" manual on Microsoft virtualization technologies. IT professionals looking for instruction on how to implement an end-to-end virtualization architecture using the full range of Microsoft virtualization solutions should buy this book. Other books I have purchased on virtualization have focused completely on machine virtualization with an emphasis on servers. Buller and Cerling expand the topic to virtualization at all levels in the architecture, including desktops and applications, offering insights on how to utilize virtualization solutions in combination for maximum benefit. IT managers will find value in Chapter 6, which offers a suggested approach to running an evaluation project and ideas on how to determine the business value proposition to justify an IT investment in virtualization. Finally, the value for readers is expanded by numerous references to recommended tool downloads, expert blogs and resources from Microsoft and third parties - most of which are free. Mastering Microsoft Virtualization is practical, comprehensive and thorough. It should be on the bookshelf of any IT professional working with Microsoft virtualization.
