Book Description

What are the underlying handful of fundamentals that haven't changed for over a hundred years? From Harnish's famous "Mastering a One Page Strategic Plan" process that has been a best-selling article on the web to his concise outline of eight practical actions you can take to strengthen your culture, this book is a compilation of best practices adapted from some of the best-run firms on the planet. Included is an instructive chapter co-authored by Rich Russakoff, revealing winning tactics to get banks to finance your business. Lastly, there are case studies demonstrating the validity of Harnish's practical approaches.

Executive Summary: There are three barriers to growth common among all growing firms: the need for the executive team to grow as leaders in their abilities to delegate and predict; the need for systems and structures to handle the complexity that comes with growth; and the need to navigate the increasingly tricky market dynamics that mark arrival in a larger marketplace. Read the first page

5.0 out of 5 stars Entrepreneur Of The Year winner - This is a Must-Read!, Nov 13 2002

Planning is everything. Our company used to be great at developing plans - we had grand plans, plans we'd worked on for months, and plans for our plans. We were planning experts. But we couldn't implement. Our plans sat in fancy binders and we pulled them out to look at them periodically, felt better because we had them, and couldn't figure out why things weren't happening like we'd planned.

Then we read Mastering the Rockefeller Habits. And we found we could actually implement the plans that we learned how to develop from the methods and techniques defined in the book. We now have plans that work. And our company has matured tremendously as an organization from following the book. I strongly recommend that any company, from young start-up to those more mature, read and implement the strategies in this book. It will change your world.

5.0 out of 5 stars President and CEO, & 2 time Inc 500 award winner, July 16 2002
This review is from: Mastering The Rockefeller Habits (Hardcover)
When I worked IN our business as salesman or technician I knew exactly what to do. When I wanted to work ON our business as President and CEO I was at a complete loss.

If you have a burning desire to grow your business, and become successful but like me, you don't know where to start, then you MUST READ Verne's book. If you are content with slow growth, or if you think you have already heard everything you need to know, then don't waste your time.

In the 6 years that I have been following the methods described in this book I have seen my business grow over 25,000%. From the outside that must sound too good to be true. However, if you want to see that kind of growth and you are willing to do the work required but you just don't know where to start, then pick up Verne's book and start practicing these habits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely useful for any business, April 11 2002

Harnish's book is extremely clear about the importance of core values, mission, alignment and rythym. All concepts that most of us know, but don't know how to really implement. The difference between this book and others I've read, is that it gives you well thought out tools which you can implement with confidence. It's obvious that these tools have been honed through Mr. Harnish's work with many entrepreneurs and CEOs.

Pay special attention to the planning pyramid; it's helped me share the big vision and get the organization into alignment. By putting stakes in the ground, it also quickly helps to identify any holes there may be in the overall strategy.

All in all, this is a must read.
