VCP 5 Certification achieved March 22 2012
By Fred - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I bought this book with the purpose of preparing for the VCP 5 certification exam. It covers everything that you need for the test, whether you are just starting out or have your VCP 3 or 4 and want to upgrade.

Aside from that, it is now also one of my resources that I using on a daily basis when questions coming up about virtualization projects I am putting together. It is a great tool and I highly recommend that you add it to your collection.

Also, I did get my certification!

A Must Have Nov. 23 2011
By Scott - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Like one of the other reviews says, this really does cover it all for all people from beginners to experts. For me, that's worked as a stepping stone. Lowe introduces you to VMware and delves into the basics and the most advanced stuff. He really throws all of his knowledge out on the page. While I'm still a beginner, I feel like I'll be using this as resource for a while. I think it's a must have even if you've been using VMware vSphere for a while

Excellent Supplement for those on VCP 5 path Jan. 25 2012
By K. Kelly - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Scott Lowe does an excellent job breaking down and explaining the rather intimidating components of VMware vSphere 5.

Lowe's book goes far more in depth at the internals than the VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V5.0] class has time to do. Which can be challenging to the point of madness. The author writes well and explains rather unintuitive abstracts in a way that is accessible to a tech audience.

Almost every paragraph in this book demands synthesis, as the VMWare product suite is vast and complex. Usually after a couple hours of reading, I would walk away zombified for the rest of the day. I think it took me about a month to slog through the entire thing.

My only gripe with the book that the screenshots are so miniscule and sometimes too light that I'm often tempted to haul out a magnifying glass while reading

So if you're ready to take the plunge into VMWare's vSphere, this book is definitely worth the bucks.

This book was so good I bought it twice (no joke) March 8 2012
By saiello - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This is literally the second time I'm buying the book in paper back form. The book is so packed with knowledge that I wore out my fist copy underlining and marking pages with sticky notes. I genuinly feel it's helped me master the entry to mid-high level points in VMware ESXi 5. I want to now go back through and re-read the portions of the book that focus more on advanced features of ESX and management.

Based on every thing I've read and my home lab I've been able to make a change from a general Windows engineer to a mich more rewarding carrer into VMware engineering. I would have no issues recommending this book to any one looking to get a great understanding of VMware ESXi 5.0. This is a hands down must buy for any one interested in ESXi 5.

Another Home Run for vSphere Admins Jan. 21 2012
By Josh Atwell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Loving this book just as I did with Mastering vSphere 4. Scott demonstrates once again why he is one of the best authors on virtualization technology out there!

This book is a great tool in preparation for VCP5 certification and provides tons of valuable information for managing your actual environments and homelabs if you are so fortunate. I may not make it cover to cover on this one but I'll be going back to it on a regular basis.

Well done once again Scott!
