Aside from that, it is now also one of my resources that I using on a daily basis when questions coming up about virtualization projects I am putting together. It is a great tool and I highly recommend that you add it to your collection.
Also, I did get my certification!
Lowe's book goes far more in depth at the internals than the VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V5.0] class has time to do. Which can be challenging to the point of madness. The author writes well and explains rather unintuitive abstracts in a way that is accessible to a tech audience.
Almost every paragraph in this book demands synthesis, as the VMWare product suite is vast and complex. Usually after a couple hours of reading, I would walk away zombified for the rest of the day. I think it took me about a month to slog through the entire thing.
My only gripe with the book that the screenshots are so miniscule and sometimes too light that I'm often tempted to haul out a magnifying glass while reading
So if you're ready to take the plunge into VMWare's vSphere, this book is definitely worth the bucks.
Based on every thing I've read and my home lab I've been able to make a change from a general Windows engineer to a mich more rewarding carrer into VMware engineering. I would have no issues recommending this book to any one looking to get a great understanding of VMware ESXi 5.0. This is a hands down must buy for any one interested in ESXi 5.
This book is a great tool in preparation for VCP5 certification and provides tons of valuable information for managing your actual environments and homelabs if you are so fortunate. I may not make it cover to cover on this one but I'll be going back to it on a regular basis.
Well done once again Scott!
