5.0 out of 5 stars If you love mystery and humor. This is the series for you. July 14 2011
By Christy Hughes - Published on Amazon.com
Nick Pirog is a fantastic new talent. I enjoyed both of his novels equally. They are well crafted, quickly paced, and highly entertaining. I especially appreciated Thomas Prescott's hilarious sense of humor. Both Unforscene and Gray Matter remind me of the Elvis Cole series by Robert Crais. I wish Amazon would do more to promote this young author. These books are so much better than the "cookie cutter" murder mysteries that are being put out by some of the "big name" bestselling authors. Please give these books a try. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pirog does it again! Nov 1 2011

This is the second Nick Pirog book I've read and only the second review I've ever written. The first review being Mr. Pirog's first novel, "Unforeseen". I read approximately 8-10 books a month and have for years so that should give an idea of how impressed I am with his author. I am writing this review because this author DESERVES to be read. Refreshingly funny, quirky and still produces a many layered well thought out mystery thriller. "Gray Matter" adds even more than just chuckles and a thought provoking who done it, this story even went as far as to throw in tears. I was mesmerized from the first page by not only the main plot but by the sub plot as well, the ending left me surprised and with tears in my eyes. WOW! I have his third novel "Arrival" already downloaded and can't wait to get it started. I hope this writer keeps writing because this is one reader who will keep reading his work!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great New Detective Sep 4 2011
By Aarwin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
First, I have to say this book was great. If it were not for some erroneous information about the habits of the shy, beautiful North American Grey Wolf, I wouldn't have hesitated to give it a five star rating. Pirog is a refreshing new voice in the mystery genre, and his detective Thomas Prescott is unique. Gray Matter and Pirog's previous book Unforseen are a marvelous departure from the stereotypes of some of the more successful,
prolific and increasingly similar best sellers we have had to endure lately.

In Gray Matter Thomas Prescott has run away from the heartbreak and bloody memories in Philly to his family home in Seattle, Washington. No longer a cop, no longer an FBI consultant, he is basically intent upon denning up and nursing his considerable wounds. When a chance stroll along the cliffs reveal a body floating in the surf, Prescott is plunged into the mystery of the murder of Washington's female governor. From then on it's high priced lawyers, beautiful female cops, a sassy forest service ranger, an old enemy from the past, and one bloody murder after another.

If you are looking for a fast-paced, surprise-a-minute mystery with an unexpected twist at the end, this is the book for you. As gratifying as Gray Matter is as a top-notch mystery, the human-interest story intertwined with it is even more appealing. Add Nick Pirog to your list of "must reads."
