I read A Matter of Trust by Anne Schrall. The main characters in this book are Darcy, Brisanna, Hakeem, and Randall. A main event from this book is when Randall got shot at Tarah's birthday party in the park. It was a drive-by shooting. Another main event from the book is when Hakeem had a track meet that was important to make his father proud of him. He came in second place, and his father seemed disappointed. I wanted to read this book because the cover and title caught my attention. Both boys and girls from 13-17 would enjoy this book. The theme of this book is "you can always have more than one best friend."
In my opinion, this book was sometimes funny and sometimes sad. One of my favorite parts of the book was when Aunt Charlotte tried to put the grandmother in a nursing home and made Darcy's mother feel bad. I liked it because the way that Darcy and her little sister snapped back and said that their grandmother was not a burden on their lives. Another part I liked was when Darcy and Hakeem went to the hospital to help Randall's mom because Hakeem felt responsible for what had happened. A part I did not like in the story was when Darcy saw Brisanna riding on the back of Hakeem's motorcycle and she was jealous. Brisanna was trying to get back at Darcy because Darcy was hanging out with Tarah and Cooper.
This is one of my favorite books. I can read it over and over again. I recommend it because it will keep you on the edge of your seat. It will make you want to read it in one day so you will know what happened.
